Judi Spitznagel (nee Loewen)

December 19, 2006

An aunt from Saskatoon has just phoned to let us know that Alice Plews has passed away. We remember her as a kind and gentle woman whose friendship we treasured over many years.

My Mom, Hedie Loewen (who is in Calgary with family for Christmas) recalls what a kind woman Alice had been to her when she was her "superivising teacher" as Mom did her practice teaching under Alice's tutelage. The two women ended up working together at Haultain School for many years and became longtime friends.

I'm Hedie Loewen's daughter Judi. Alice Plews was my grade 3 teacher at Haultain. I loved being in her classroom. I remember her kindness and easy laugh.....and the way she'd crank the handle of the big,old record player that stood in the corner of the classroom to get it going. That piece of furniture was almost as tall as she was! I was honored to visit with Mrs. Plews a few years ago when I was in Saskatoon. She was as delightful then as I had remembered her those many years ago when I was a child in her class.

Alice Plews will be remembered with great fondness and respect. She was a wonderful woman.
