Alice J. Rawlings

Alice J. Kornegay Rawlings, age 79, passed away Nov. 25, 2017, at her home in Hood River, Oregon.
She was born on October 15, 1938 . She was born in West Point, to Riley N. Kornegay and Virginia Harpole Kornegay.
She was raised in Mississippi and graduated from West Point High School. After graduation, Alice moved to the big city of Atlanta, Georgia, with her sister Mary. While living in Atlanta, she met her husband, Toby, at a dance hall. Toby, who grew up in Los Angeles, California, and was stationed at nearby Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. After a brief courtship, they married May 1, 1957 in West Point. They spent the next several years moving back and forth between Mississippi and California. In 1966 the family moved to Hood River, Oregon, where she spent the rest of her life.
Alice was a loving, caring, warm person who always placed her family first. She had a wonderful sense of humor and the patience to raise seven children and be a supportive spouse.
She is survived by her seven children: Steven Rawlings (wife Lenise) of Vancouver, Washington; son Garry Rawlings (wife Machele) of Hood River, Oregon; daughters: Kathleen Rawlings of Hood River,Oregon, Karen Rawlings Simmons (husband Charles) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Carolyn Rawlings Uhlman (husband William) of Hood River, Oregon, Amy Rawlings of Portland, Oregon; and son, Jeffrey Rawlings of Hood River, Oregon; brother, Charles Kornegay and sister, Mary Kornegay Ward both of West Point; grandchildren: Malia Rawlings, Drew Rawlings, Garry J. Rawlings, Richard Rawlings, Samantha Simmons, Kimberly Simmons, Nathaniel Mears; great grandchildren Payton, Eli and Aiden.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Toby Rawlings; son, John D. Rawlings; her parents; siblings: Carroll Kornegay, Glory Faye Kornegay Brown, and Virginia Ann Kornegay.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 1, 2017, at Anderson's Tribute Center. A graveside will follow at Mountain View Cemetery (1235 Tucker Road Hood River, OR 97031). Memorial contributions can be made in Alice's memory to the Arc of Mid-Columbia c/o Anderson's Tribute Center.
