Alice Slaikeu Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2009.
Alice was born April 26, 1909 to George and Agnes Clausen Slaikeu near Mason City, Iowa. When Alice was six months of age her mother died and her father later married Inger Marie Sorensen. They moved to Luck, Wisconsin and Alice became the big sister to six brothers and two sisters: Arthur, Merle, Howard, Harley, Shirley, George, Beatrice and Miriam. She assisted her postmaster father and then held various jobs in Chicago and St Paul, including many years at the Rice Street Clinic. After retirement, she traveled extensively. Alice was a devote Christian who entered the presence of the Lord Jesus on October 30, 2009. She is survived by her brother Harley Slaikeu, Red Wing, and sisters-in-law Mary Jane (Howard) Slaikeu, St. Paul, and Margaret (Arthur) Slaikeu Holm, Roseville. A celebration of her life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 2120 Lexington Avenue North, Roseville on November 13 at 10:30. Lunch to follow the service.

I met Alice when she lived at Concordia Arms and I worked for the Wilder Foundation. Alice moved to Scandia Shores and I followed her when I changed jobs to work for Twin City Christian Homes. I began visiting Alice regularly, and we'd talk about our families, her travels and the changing world. One day she handed me a copy of her life history and I was honored to read it! I loved hearing about Alice's days growing up in her big family. Her 100th birthday party was wonderful fun; Alice looked beautiful. She was a dear friend and I will miss her. My sympathies to the family.

Joan Sorenson alerted me of Alice's passing. My condolence to you, Harley, Mary Jane and Margaret. I will remember her unselfishness. RIP, Alice,
