Alice Thompson

Alice H. Thompson, age 97, of San Rafael, California, passed away on July 31, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1926, in Lorain, Ohio, to the late Alex and Elizabeth Szantay. Alice was a creative and talented individual with a strong personality. As a former ballet and legitimate theater professional dancer, she delighted in attending social gatherings, always shining as the star of the dance floor. Despite the challenges of being a young widow, Alice successfully raised her three children.

Alice is survived by her loving daughters, Francine Pullens and Laureen Sweetser, and her son Kevin Thompson. She leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with another on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, both sisters Dolores Hickman and Sandra Kacur, as well as her beloved husband, Harry J. Thompson.

Alice's passion for dance led her to a remarkable career as a professional ballet dancer and principal with the Cleveland Civic Ballet Company of Cleveland, Ohio. Alongside her sister Dolores, Alice danced her way into the world of legitimate theater. It was during their time working on the Broadway production of "Paint Your Wagon" that Alice met her husband, Harry, who was a stagehand on the show. Together, they traveled the globe as members of international productions like "Porgy and Bess," even venturing into communist countries during the Cold War.

After settling in Marinwood, Alice and Harry raised their three children in a loving home. Following Harry's passing after a long illness, Alice joined the wardrobe union. After several years, she returned to school to re-enter the job market and found employment at Fireman's Fund in the medical claims adjusting department.

In addition to her illustrious career, Alice had a profound love for dancing and formed lifelong friendships through organizations such as Parents Without Partners and Goldenaires Senior Citizens. She cherished the joy of going on cruises and exploring various destinations worldwide.

A mass in memory of Alice H. Thompson will be held at St. Isabella's located at 1 Trinity Way, San Rafael, California.

Alice will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy as a talented dancer, devoted mother, and cherished friend will live on.
