Alicia Contreras age 88, died on June 3, 2017 after a short illness. She was born to Agripin Rodriguez Sr. and Juanita Rodriguez (Ramirez) on April 14th, 1929 in Falfurrias, Texas. She will be missed; may she rest in peace.
Alicia is survived by her children Rolando Contreras, Esperanza (Hope) Contreras and Esmeralda Norma Barrientes; brothers Raul Rodriguez Sr., Crespin Rodriguez Sr., Agripin "Rod" Rodriguez Jr.; sisters Gloria "Veve" Garza, Julia Martinez, Margret Reyes and Eulalia Tamez and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by husband Noe G. Contreras; parents Agripin Rodriguez Sr. and Juanita Rodriguez; step mother Julia Rodriguez; brothers Jose Rodriguez, Uvaldo Rodriguez, Juan "Johnny" Rodriguez; sister Antonia Gaona.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 8th, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday June 9th, 2017 at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church, 1102 Bloomington Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. Entombment immediately following at Memory Gardens, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.

Mom was the steel hub of the constantly revolving lives of us, her children. There was a comfort in knowing that when we came home she would be home and she wanted to listen to everything we were up to. We valued the excellence she held to as she offered us anecdotes, spanish sayings (dichos) and sage advice as she listened, many of which will endure the test of time. She validated our existence whenever times got rough. She encouraged us to make healthy choices in meals and manage our weight, offering us home remedies (remedios) as needed when we were under the weather but most of all being the role model herself by staying fit. Mom loved a good clean joke to bring good cheer to the dreariness that sometimes comes to the forefront in this society we live in. She had lost her biological mother at a tender age so we knew that having her through our old age was a daily blessing. No doubt, she desperately missed our dad that we lost in 2015 but kept her daily regimen and continued in her gardening and creative interests. She was handy in repairs and refurbishing to re-purpose and reuse or just to add life to furnishings and decorations. We learned so much from her and my father. She left hundreds of hard copy photos of family and friends she held dear to her heart. She left behind etchings and paintings of beauty she saw from the windows of her eyes that are now suspended in time. We find comfort in these time capsules she left. We will cherish her and our dad for many years to come for we will always keep them close to our hearts.
