Alicia Ann Powars, 18, of LaGrange, died Tuesday. She was a senior at Henry County High School, where she was a former cheer-leader, and a waitress at Our Best Restaurant. Survivors include her mother, Marianna Morgan; father and stepmother, Jeff and Michelle Powars; sister, Kayla Powars; brother, Jeffrey Powars; stepbrother, Chris Wise; grandmother, Peggy Roth; and grandfather, Bill Powars. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Friday at Heady-Radcliffe, LaGrange. Burial: Valley of Rest. Visitation: 3-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial gifts may go to the family.

We have both gone to school with Alicia since elementary school. We had recently talked to her about prom and graduation. Now, we know she may not be there physically, but she will be there in the hearts of everyone in the class of 2004 and at HCHS.

We are very saddened at this time. Alicia was very special to us. We got to know and enjoy Alicia through our grandson (Brian Thompson). We started talking to her at Our Best several years ago and realized that she knew and had gone to school with Brian. Bob always enjoyed teasing her about Brian and she always seemed to appreciate the attention. We will keep the family in our prayers at this very sad time.

Although I did have a chance to know Alicia, I heard many good things about her from Granddaddy Powars. He was very proud of his granddaughter. Being a High School Principal, it is so hard for me to accept these tragic accidents. I will pray her family as they will need it for many years to come.
