Alison Ann Eriguel

Alison Ann Eriguel, also known as "Ali", was born on February 25, 1988 at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, in Inglewood, California to Armando ("Sonny") and Felicitas ("Fely"). It was the same hospital her older sister, Jen, was born and where Fely worked as a nurse. A southern California girl all her life, Ali grew up in Torrance, enjoying long family road trips and gatherings with her traditionally large Filipino extended family, surrounded by food and laughter. In middle school Ali discovered her love for guitar and, inspired by the popular punk-rock music of her time, she founded a band "X-Medium" with two of her childhood friends. Ali graduated from Torrance High in 2006 and attended El Camino Community College prior to transferring to Cal State Long Beach where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees cum laude in Family of Consumer Sciences - Textiles and Clothing and in Fashion Merchandising in 2013. While in school, Ali poured her creativity into designing and sewing a collection for the annual fashion shows and would continue creating and sewing as one of her pastimes. Her career in fashion began at Guess in downtown Los Angeles where she worked in Project Development. On one of her working days, Ali would rescue and become pet parent to one lucky dog off the streets, naming him "Bruce". After a few years at Guess, Ali found a new opportunity, becoming Global Project Development Manager at Volcom in Costa Mesa. Ali was living with high school friends in Long Beach at the time she met Matt, the love of her life. In January 2019, Ali was admitted to the ICU at Hoag Hospital after becoming septic and undergoing an emergency colostomy. It was at this time that she was diagnosed with Stage 4 signet cell adenocarcinoma, a highly malignant stomach cancer. Despite the diagnosis, Ali was a fighter and bravely sought and endured treatments that would help cure her. During her hospitalization at UCLA earlier this year, she was given a terminal diagnosis and would be transferred to hospice care back home in Torrance. Before discharge, Ali's final wish to be married was granted by the hospital chaplain and staff and with just a few hours of preparation, Ali and Matt were married in her hospital room, in the presence of close family, on March 4, 2020. For nearly the past 2 years, through her strong spirit and will to live, Ali faced the discomforts and pain of her disease with grace. To her family and friends, she was known for her humor, fearlessness, compassion, authenticity and fashion sense. While ill, she spent time on old and new hobbies including loving on her dog Bruce, watching episodes of 90 Day Fiancé, expanding her plant collection and researching Filipino culture. Ali was freed from her suffering while a long-term patient at Kindred Hospital in Westminster, California on November 22, 2020. She was 32 years old.
