Allan Dummer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2024.
Allan (Al) J Dummer, MA LCP, age 63, of Underwood, MN, went to his eternal home on May 9, 2024, after suffering a cardiac arrest following heart surgery. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 25, 1961 to Herbert and Rosella Dummer. He was the youngest of eight children and grew up on the family farm in Fairfax, MN.

After graduating from Fairfax High School, he attended Mankato State University where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1983. He continued his education at Saint Mary's College of Minnesota where he received his Master of Arts in Psychology in 1991 and was licensed shortly thereafter.

Allan spent 31 years as a Licensed Psychologist at the Associated Clinic of Psychology. He was one of the first Psychologists to provide services to nursing homes. He became the voice for those who didn't have one and changed the lives of clients, staff and colleagues who worked with him.

He has left an empty space in the lives and hearts of his wife and best friend, Barb, his two children, Chris and Hannah and his faithful companion, Ari.

Al was most at peace at his lake home in Underwood. He loved to fish, boat, golf, hike and enjoy the outdoors. In the last two years, Barb and Al achieved their dream of buying a home in Arizona where they could enjoy the outdoors all year round.

Al will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and ability to put other people first. He was a great listener and a compassionate human being. He was a friend to all and loved by many.

He is survived by his siblings Willie Dummer (Traci); Jim Dummer; Luci Heuton (Paul); Rosanne Dummer, as well as sisters-in-law Anna Dummer and Rosemary Dummer. He also left behind two brothers-in-law, Rick Klein and Keith Klein, his mother-in-law Carol Klein, and many nephews, nieces and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 30th, at BK Tap Haus in St Michael, from 2-5 pm, with a short service at 3. Please come and share food and drink along with your favorite memories of Al.

Memorials can be made in his honor to your local animal shelter.

"For this is how God loved the world: He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

I've known Al since 3rd grade, shared many good times together, had much in common.
His passing leaves an empty space in my heart.

I was fortunate enough to shadow Allan early and later in my career when he was close to retiring. Allan was an impressive human as well as practitioner. I feel so grateful to have crossed paths with him even briefly. He is missed by many colleagues and residents. He inspired me along with so many others. My deepest condolences to Al's family and closest friends.

I have known Al since we became neighbors on Pleasant Lake over twenty years ago. Some of my best memories with Al were the times we spent in the boat. We both shared a love for the water and fishing. He was always fun to be with, a good listener and had a great sense of humor. He was also a pretty good fisherman. Our conversations were often about family and he was always interested in knowing about what was going on with mine. I know he was especially proud of his family and he loved Barb, Chris and Hannah dearly. I missed those days with him. I had hoped there would be more but I am grateful for the time we had together.

My deepest condolences to the Al Dummer family. Even though our relationship was strictly via email, he was such a genuine soul. Always asked about my dog and how he was doing at the time since he was sick, his responses were always so positive and heartfelt as well and he was a joy to work with for so many years. I know he touched hundreds of lives throughout his career as a Psychologist with ACP and is greatly missed by his many many colleagues.

Larry and I met Allan and Barb when Allan's brother passed away in Green Valley. Our friendship developed, quickly. Allan was kind, friendly, and loved life. We are so honored to have known him and Barb. The world has lost a special man. We send love and blessings to Barb and their children. We are so sad he's gone.

Summer time at Al & Barbs house for gatherings! He was always so kind, and his heart was so soft.

I always remember when Louie and I got married and Allan stood up at the dinner and said, "Rosemary what's for dessert?" His Mother was mortified. He was 3 at the time and a good laugh was had by all.

A blessing presented itself when Allan and Barb moved next door to me in Quail Creek. We instantly connected when we met and we three knew God had his hand in putting us together. I recall Allan´s gentle intelligent spirit with his soft spoken voice revealing a kind soul with humor, love of helping others, love of nature, love for his family and friends and dog, and a great love for Jesus. Allan always listened with his heart , helped with his hands, and made us all feel special and important. We will miss you dear Allan. Your life was cut short on earth but your paradise with the Lord is ever lasting. We are assured that We will meet again dear dear brother in Christ . You are so loved And missed.

Went hiking at Madera Canyon for first time with Barb and Allan. Still snow on mountain. Barb was ahead of us, and I wasn't used to trekking in snow. Allan stayed back with me and talked. Such a great conversationalist, but what struck me as so special, was his love of Barb. He said how lucky he was to have found "one of the good ones." He was one of the good ones too. Rest in Peace friend.

Barb and Allan bought the house next to us in Quail Creek. We quickly fell in love with both of them. As an 80-plus year old couple, we so enjoyed their friendliness and energy. Allan was always willing to help any needy neighbor. Allan will be missed by the small Thursday morning breakfast men's group.
He was also a good listener and quick to laugh at the old stories.

I didn´t know Al long enough. I only met him and Barb when they moved to Arizona.
Allan was one of the kindest men I know. His sweet caring for others and his quickness to laugh were gifts he gave the world.
Al, you will be missed
Until we meet again <><

Allan was a yard farmer.
He grew a beautiful yard and trees like he grew friends; time, patience, nourishment, and likely, kind words! He always was calm and collected even in difficult times. He was loved by his lake neighbors. We were lucky to know him.
Barb was very blessed to have him as her partner in life and Chris and Hannah will have wonderful, heartfelt memories of their time with him. He was a good and kind man. We miss you.
Allan, we are thankful you were a part of our lives and know you have ascended to
a place of tranquility.
May the grass be green and the trees be swaying!
