Allan Scott Lindsay died in Renfrew, Ontario on August 21, 2017 He was a much loved father to four daughters who survive him: Jane (Ron) Wilson, Susan (Ted) Lindsay, Jill (Norm) Castonguay and Anne Lindsay (Gerry Forestell). He was a cherished grandfather, known as "HoHo" to eleven grandchildren, Marcia (Jesse) Knockleby, Margo (Nat Pollock) Wilson, Scott (Lindsay) Wilson and Jennifer (Kevin) Stewart; Meghan (Juan Olivares) Lindsay, Erin (Joel Gorrie) Lindsay and James Lindsay; Sarah Castonguay and Nicole Castonguay and Ben Forestell and Nathan Forestell. HoHo was loved by ten great-grandchildren. Allan was predeceased by his wife Marie (McCoomb), his parents Margaret and Nat Lindsay, his brother Earl Lindsay and infant son Ronald Allan. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Cooke and his sister-in-law Marge Lindsay, and many nieces and nephews. After Marie's death, Allan enjoyed spending time with his cherished companion, Wayne Haramis. Visiting at McPhail & Perkins Funeral Home, 85 Munroe Ave. E., Renfrew on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity-St. Andrew's United Church on Friday at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Thomsonville Cemetery. He was born on May 22, 1929 in Renfrew, Ontario. Allan attended Renfrew Collegiate Institute and upon graduation, left for MacDonald College (McGill University) to study agricultural sciences and economics. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1949, and returned to Renfrew to join the family agri-business. Allan met his wife, Marie McCoomb while at university. They were married in October 1950 in St. Stephen New Brunswick. Together they enjoyed 56 years of married life, residing in Renfrew until Marie's death in 2006. Allan and Marie were very active in their community. Allan contributed much to the education system of Renfrew County, as trustee in the town and then on the Renfrew County Board of Education, on which he served as its first Chairman. He was also involved in Trinity St. Andrew's United Church, the Renfrew Industrial Commission and the Renfrew Hydro Commission. In Allan's later years, he was faced with the challenge of dementia. The family is very grateful to the caregivers who assisted him through his journey in such a kind and compassionate manner. Appreciation is extended to the staff at Bonnechere Manor and most particularly his special companion, Kelly Barr. Allan will be much missed by all who knew him, most especially by his family. "Carpe diem" has special meaning to all those who knew and loved Allan Scott Lindsay.
