Our present day students in the University of Ottawa School of Music, particularly percussion students, are reminded daily of Allan and his contributions when he was a student here by a plaque located outside the hallway leading into the Percussion Studio which has been designated as Allans Alley. Those of us who knew Allan and worked with him cherish our association with him and we truly miss him.

Although Chris and I hadn't seen Al in about 3 years we were terribly saddened to hear of his illness and, eventual, death. It seems like yesterday that we were driving Matt over to your place so that he, and Jamie, could work with Al on some piece of music. Al's presence was always welcome at our house as well. He was inevitably polite and caring and filled our place with light and laughter. We are honoured that we got to bask in his light for a little while. Thank you for having such a wonderful son/brother. He touched many lives, including ours.

Dear Miskell family, and Caitlin,
"May choirs of angels carry you and sing thee to thy rest, sweet prince..."
I knew Allan only from a distance, from my place in the orchestra. I've been touched by his musicality and display of strength beyond my own. May you feel comfort during this difficult time, he will be sorely missed, and heartfully remembered...

Allan was so precious in every way, he will always be missed by the lives he touched. I can't make it to his funeral today and I feel horrible for it, but I just wanted to write and say that he really was a great person who was extremely ambitous and musically inclined. My sympathies go out to everyone who ever knew him, but especially his family. Rest in peace.

Allan was one of the kindest and sweetest people I ever met. He came to watch Harry Potter with me and a few friends, he gave me a valentine in our first year of University and was an all around entertaining guy to be around. He always made me laugh.
During our first year University there was this one piece we had to learn for one of the history classes and Allan would always sing it. I forget the piece, but the word "speranza" was in it and everytime he sang that piece it always made me smile.
He had a great passion for music and had a smile on his face every time I saw or talked to him.
I will always miss him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in the loss of your dear son and brother, Allan. He holds a special place in many hearts. His courage and conviction were admired by many and we felt honoured to have been there for him while in hospital. Allan is a "special" angel who will help guide you and keep you all safe. God Speed Allan.

Dear Miskell Family:
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Allan befriended our daughter Amanda Gray, in Ottawa and many good times were shared while Allan was in the Band with Dave Blair and friends. Music was Allan's life and we know that heavens' drums will be played in a very special way with the battons being passed to Allan there! May God be with you as you face all your tomorrows.
I met Allan at the first band (Keystone Species)concert they played in at the Ottawa Exhibition.
A wonderful memory and a tribute to a very special person.

To the Miskell Family and Caitlin,
It was an absolute priviledge to know Allan as a bandmate and good friend for six years. I will sorely miss practicing with him in Carlsbad Springs, playing shows together, visiting him "next-door" in rez, and his jazz drumming at Nostalgica. His courage, witnessed from the day he entered the hospital till the day he passed, was humbling.
With sadness and fond memories,
Joseph

I met Allan through friends of his and will never forget my almost instant affection for him. He was there simply because he'd been invited by his friend. Through the course of that evening I learned his passion for music and his commitment to his friends. It was easy to admire him for who he was.
We are all very lucky to have known such a wonderful young man.

Allan was a great kid. My son Matt and he hung around together for years, from early school days into young adulthood. Only the good ones make friendships that last over time. I saw Allan a lot in his younger days, got to know him some, and I will miss him. My best wishes to you all.

I first met Al when he joined the Ottawa River Youth Band and immediately knew that we had a special person in the band. His musical skills were far better than expected and kept improving, his demeanour was always positive and he was just fun to have in the room. He always had that big smile on his face and that twinkle in his eye. He would literally light up the room every time he showed up.
As time went by and he started to get sick, he never lost his great attitude and that huge smile. Everytime I saw him, he would stop to chat and see how things were going. I never once heard him complain about his situation, never once saw him get down about what was going on. He was such an inspiration in so many ways that it'll be a long time before we ever see another one like him.
My deepest sympathies to his family. It is clear where Al got his positive attitude from. He left a mark on everyone he met. We might never hear his drums again, but we will always remember the wonderful rhythm in which he lived his life. We'll miss you Al.

You know, I don't think I've met a person more passionate about music than Allan. It was what he loved, and he was truly gifted at it.
I knew Allan in high school. He was the kind of guy that always made you smile. Devoted and reliable, he was involved in anything that had to do with music, sharing his love of music with everyone around him.
The fact he is no longer honing his craft to become the truly exceptional percussionist he was bound to be is a terrible tragedy. He will be missed.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Allan's family and friends.
I have fond memories of Allan during high school, through our involvement in various musicals and the A/V Crew. He was always a bright ray of sunshine in our lives. He brought laughter and smiles to all our faces.
He will be fondly remembered, and will be in my prayers, as will his family.

My deepest sympathies to Allan's family. He was a great person.
I'd like to share a memory. I remember the first time I met Al. It was an Ottawa River Youth Band practice probably 10 years ago. Our previous drummer had been less than stellar. Al walks in, picks up the music and sightreads the first piece, which included a drum solo, almost perfectly. Our jaws hit the floor. He was with the band for 4 more years and I have many great memories of him.
He was a fabulous musician, a good friend, a brave soul and an overall great human being. He will be missed.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to all involved. Allan was without a doubt one of the bravest, most optimistic and mature individual I have encountered. He fought a strong and dignified battle until the very end and will always be remembered that way. It was such a privilege to have taken care of him throughout his battle and in the last few days of his life, I learned a lot from him. He is a great example of the resiliency of the human spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with the Miskell family during this difficult time.
