Allen "Al" J Nelson III

Allen J "Al, Butch" Nelson III passed away on April 27, 2025, in Grayslake, Illinois. Born on February 4, 1959, in Maryland, Allen lived a life marked by grit, passion, and a deep connection to the things-and people-he cared about most.

Known to many as Al or Butch, Allen spent the majority of his career at Knauz Auto Park, where he became a fixture in the Land Rover shop. He loved working on cars and was known as the gruffest guy around-a badge he wore with pride. His no-nonsense demeanor belied a deep dedication to his craft and a loyalty that ran deep for those who earned it.

Outside of work, Allen found joy in the great outdoors and the roar of engines. He loved hunting and camping, often seeking solace and adventure in nature. Riding motorcycles and attending drag races were among his favorite pastimes-activities that reflected his love for speed, freedom, and the open road.

Allen meant many things to many people. To some, he was a mentor; to others, a challenge; but to all who truly knew him, he was unforgettable. He was especially tough on those closest to him-a reflection of how deeply he cared. That toughness came from a place of love and protection, and it will be remembered with both laughter and tears.

He is survived by his daughters, Alex and Ashley Nelson; and his sister, Patty Nelson. He was preceded in death by Allen J. Nelson Jr., Janice Nelson, and Paul Nelson.

Allen's memory will live on through the stories shared by those who knew him best-in the echo of an engine revving up or the quiet crackle of a campfire under the stars. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 06:00 PM at Gorton Center- Stuart Room 400 E Illinois rd Lake Forest, IL
