Allen Gold Obituary

Published by Dallas Morning News from May 3 to May 4, 2014.
Gold, Allen J. Allen J. Gold, referred to by his family as "Papa," died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 86 on the 30th of April at his home in Dallas, Texas. Allen was full of life, living abundantly and loving unconditionally. He was a "man's man," surrogate father to many and trusted and loved by all who knew him. He was a storyteller, a jokester, and enjoyed making people laugh and smile. He loved to experience life, not just live it, hence he travelled around the world and never met a stranger. Besides spending time with his family, his favorite hobbies were smoking fine cigars, completing the most difficult crossword puzzles, watching game shows and playing three card poker. He was a member of Temple Emanuel, Scottish Rite of FreeMasonry 32?° and the Commanderies de Bordeaux. Allen was born in New Jersey on August 23, 1927, the adopted son of Benard L. and Shirley Gold. They moved to Dallas from New York in 1938, and Allen loved to tell stories about the "old Dallas." Allen graduated from Highland Park High school, attended Southern Methodist University and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He began his professional career working for his father Bernard, owner of Nardis of Dallas, a national clothing manufacturer. After closing Nardis in 1980, Allen wisely invested in oil and gas and spent the reminder of his career as President of AG Energy. His greatest and most extraordinary achievement was being a husband for 44 years, a father, grandfather and in recent years, a great grandfather. His abounding and dedicated love for his family far outweighs any of his accomplishments and successes. Allen is survived by his wife Kaye Gold, daughter-in-law Pat Gold, daughter Cathy Singleton and husband Jeff, step-daughter Suzanne Hudspeth and husband Bob, daughter Ashley Gold Kuehne and husband Ryan, granddaughter Jessica Leggett and husband Paul, grandson Ben Arwin and wife Annie, granddaughter Courtney Arwin, granddaughter Victoria Daigrepont, grandson John Kuehne, granddaughter Grace Gold Macchia, great-grandson John Leggett, great-granddaughter Pearl Arwin, and brother Richard Gold and wife Tillie. Allen is joined in heaven with his son Dr. Benard L. Gold II. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 pm Monday, May 5, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Buckner children's home at https://donate.bucknerfoundation.org. ...Missing the man who I loved so dearly as a child, and who I wish I had been able to know as an adult. Goodbye, Dad, and thank you for being in my life.

Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy, in the presence of The Lord!

Mr. Allen Gold, he was the father figure I had for the last 10 years of my life. He was loving, gentle, and took care of his family better than anyone else I know.
He and Kaye loved me like their own Daugther
He was the best ! Always happy and supportive, smoking his Cubans !
I will miss him and remember him as the Best Papa in the world!

You will always be remembered as the best father, grandpa, friend, husband and mentor.
Thank you for everything you did for so many...
I will always remember you!

I went to work for Allen at Nardis of Dallas at 19 tears old. I thought I had landed in Heaven. All the beautiful clothes, lavish parties, interesting people, generous company benefits and gifts and most of all being part of a family and treated as such-were such a big part of my life and I was so fortunate to work for a man like Allen.

He truly knew how to live and enjoy life and opened my eyes to horizons I never dreamed I'd see.

Thank you Allen and you will be missed greatly but never forgotten.
