My condolences to Shirley and the extended Macpherson Family.
I am writing to express my respect and genuine fondness for Red.
My perspective is that of a vendor, a salesman that walked into Red's store one day trying to sell him on the advantages of advertising in my magazine - Our Town Brookline Magazine.
Red was old school, he listened respectfully, asked questions and then turned to his daughter and asked - "What do you think?"
I got the feeling that with Red, it was about the relationship, that he was asking himself - is it worth taking a shot with this guy? Is he going to do right by me? How do I feel about him?
Red and I did business together but it was the air conditioners that he sold that he advertised. By 2005 the big-box stores had all but cornered the market on TV's.
That however didn't stop me from purchasing a SONY TV from Red, which I still have today.
What I especially appreciated was that our relationship grew to where Red felt comfortable enough to tell me the story about how he met Shirley. Then he swore me to secrecy, not to tell anyone else. That was Red telling me that he trusted me and I appreciated his trust and friendship.
Rest in Peace my friend.

To the MacPherson Family,
I was saddened to hear about the passing of your Dad. It is never easy to lose a loved one no matter what age. The blessing is that you all had him in your life for as long as you did and those memories will last forever. He was a terrific person with a dry sense of humor and seemed to always have a smile on his face. He was always welcoming when I and other friends of Rick visited the vineyard for a weekend but Im sure he was more than happy to see us leave. Unfortunately I didnt get to see him much during his later years but I to will have great memories to last me a lifetime. We have lost a true gentlemen. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely, your friend,

Allen was the only grandfather I ever knew. I grew up under his roof, quite literally, and he was there for every birthday, holiday, graduation, etc. All my memories of Christmas and family vacations include him there. The majority of my childhood photos include him! I got married on June 13, and he passed away on June 14. I feel as though he saw me through my childhood right to the very last day. To say he will be missed is an understatement. He was a part of my childhoo and my home itself, and I am so honored to have had such a comedian and guardian so close in my life for so long. I can almost still hear his footsteps above, and his cheers during a Sox game, and the muffled sounds of the Memory Station playing from his old radio outside my bedroom window.

Red was a vibrant force in Brookline Rotary for many years. A past President, as was his wife Shirley, and the recipient of the Brookline Rotary Community Service Award, he was an inspiration to all in his dedication to his community. A tease with heart, his humor and positive energy will be remembered.

I just loved Red. He always teased me that I talked about joining Rotary but would never do it. When I became president I cared most about his approval. Red you were so generous of heart and financially. You gave so much to the community and always brought a smile to my face. Thank you for all you have given to me and so many others.
