Allen C. Miller, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13th in
Clinton, CT. He was born May 16, 1930 in Manchester, CT, to Fred and Dorothy (Larkham) Miller, the seventh of eight children. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict in the 48th Anti Aircraft 1st Division in Erling, Germany. He worked on local farms with the cows starting at a young age. He would rather be with the cows than anyone else. Later, he took a job as a truck driver in South Windsor for close to thirty years and when they closed he finished his career driving for Stop and Shop. In his free time, you could always find him in his gardens or working on his lawn. He was an avid gardener and grew the best tomatoes and garlic. His garden soil could never be duplicated. Allen and his wife Dorothy hosted many picnics during their marriage. He was a very quiet man but could be heard singing his grilling song while he grilled at his picnics. He loved animals and enjoyed feeding the birds (but not the squirrels!) He loved to drive and travel and would study the maps and memorize them before driving and would drive from CT to FL all by memory. He loved the Amish country in Pennsylvania especially the country side and the farms. He and his family vacationed at Old Orchard Beach in ME for over 30 years. Allen moved to Clinton with his daughter Sally and her family in 2017. He loved our dogs to pieces. They could do no wrong and he would have been happy to have more. They were his best buddies. Every day he shared his lunch with Bennie. Mason would escort him from his apartment out to our kitchen and back every time, even barking to let everyone know Grandpa was here. Charlie was his lap dog (all 65 lbs of him). He would lick Grandpa up one side and down the other. Allen loved fishing and spent many years fishing in Long Island Sound with his son in law Kevin and grandchildren, Kate and Sean. He shared his love of birds with his son in law, Kevin and there were many meal time conversations about the birds of the day. Allen was especially proud of his grandchildren and their spouses and loved spending time with them and visiting with them. He was thrilled to become a Great Grandfather when Lillian was born and again when Nora was born. He loved looking at pictures and videos of the girls at dinner. They were a highlight of his later days. Sally and Kevin would like to thank his friends at Botticello Farms for their wonderful friendships over the decades, his angelic aides Shernette Gayle and Sharon Angus for the love, care and devotion they showed him at the end as well as Lara his Hospice nurse. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy. He is survived by two daughters, Allyson (Mike) Leonard of Hartville, OH, and Sally (Kevin) O'Brien of
Clinton, CT; three grandchildren, Kate (Steven) Maldonado, Sean (Shannon) O'Brien, and Mike Leonard; and two great granddaughters; Lillian Dorothy Maldonado and Nora Leanne O'Brien, two sisters in law; Helen Wadsworth and Stacia Miller and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Clara, Ralpha and Ruth and brothers; Fred, Howard, Edward and Joe and many in laws. A memorial is planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to:
