Funeral services for Alma J. Monstrey, 78, East Moline, are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where the National Catholic Society of Foresters with Fr. John Burns will recite a rosary at 2:30 p.m. Alma died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at her home. Memorials may be made to the Rev. John J. Dunne Memorial Endowment at her church.
Alma VerHeeke was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Sheffield, Ill., the daughter of Andrew and Emily (Bollens) VerHeeke. She married Charles A. Monstrey, Sept. 23, 1944, in East Moline. Alma had worked as a drill press operator at John Deere during World War II. She had worked in the housekeeping department at Illini Hospital for 10 years before going to work as a custodian for the Silvis School District. Alma was very active at her church, especially with the National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy, East Moline; and a brother, Wilbur VerHeeke, East Moline. Her parents, husband, infant daughter, Barbara Jane, several brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
