Alvin Fuchs, age 91, of Wells, MN, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at his home. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 27, 2017, at 10:30 AM, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, MN, with Pastor Mary Iverson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, February 26 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Alvin "Skimmer" was born March 8, 1925, the son of Herman and Emma (Giese) Fuchs in Vernon Center, MN. He grew up, and lived in the Wells area for his whole life. He attended country school until the 8th grade. He worked on the farm and had various jobs until 1943. He then joined the army, and honorably served in France during WWII. After being discharged he met and was united in marriage to Marie Dammen on October 25, 1947 in Wells, MN. Together the couple raised 5 children. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wells American Legion Post #210, and the Wells VFW Post #1778. Al's passion was working. Besides his full time positions in construction, he enjoyed remodeling old houses and renting them out. Al "retired" at the age of 65, but continued to work construction well into his 70's. Skimmer is survived by his children: Ron (Doris) Fuchs of Waseca, MN, Nancy (Larry) Nelson of Freeborn, MN, Shirley Fuchs (partner David Riemer) of Conger, MN, and Linda (Cliff) McGuire of Grand Rapids, MN; sister: Alberta Brandt of Albert Lea, MN; 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and their families He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; son, Kevin; infant grandson; and 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Blessed be his memory.

I will miss visits with my friend Skimmer, he has helped me a lot through the years and helped Mikey, what a great man he was, he fought until the end! He always said we have to do the best that we can! My thoughts are with his family through these hard times!

So sorry for your loss. Quite the guy. Dad and I really enjoyed his visits and talks. He laid block for us here in Alden. What a wonderful day that was, me trying to help him with the block. All he would do is smile and say thanks. A very special man. He will be missed.
