Dr. Alvin S. Goodman DDS, MSCD

June 27, 1937 to April 14, 2020

Dr. Alvin Stewart Goodman of Charlotte, NC passed away at Sharon Towers Retirement Community on April 14, 2020 at the age of 82. Alvin attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. He continued his studies at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry where he graduated with honors.

After serving as a Captain in the United States Army (stationed in Frankfurt, Germany), Dr. Goodman went on to specialize at Boston University's School of Graduate Dentistry in Endodontics where he won the prestigious Julius Fox Memorial Award for excellence in Endodontic Research. He later served as president of the Tarheel Endodontic Association as well as president of the Boston University Endodontic Alumni Association.

Dr. Goodman practiced Endodontics for 45 years in Winston-Salem, NC and in Charlotte, NC until retiring in 2017. He was a long-time member of the American Dental Society and the American Association of Endodontists. Dr. Goodman devoted much of his time and effort fundraising for Missions of Mercy Dental Clinics, an outreach program of the North Carolina Dental Society.

He was an active member at Temple Israel in Charlotte, NC and a philanthropic member of Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.

He is predeceased by his parents Meyer & Mildred Surasky Goodman, his sisters Lorraine Goodman Oudin & Idelle Goodman Katz, and his son Mark Goodman.

He is survived by Rachel Mazursky Davis (his former wife of 51 years), his daughters Irene Goodman and Melissa Goodman Cohen (Micah), and his son Matthew Goodman.

Alvin will be laid to rest at Sons of Israel Cemetery in Aiken, SC.
