Alvin Carr (A.C.) Heath Jr., fondly known as Papa, formerly of La Coste, TX passed away in San Marcos, TX Monday, January 9, 2017 at the age of 92. He was Born February 9, 1924 in Huntsville, Texas to A.C. and Gertrude (Gentry) Heath Sr.
He spent his early elementary and teenage years in Huntsville, where he was a Boy Scout achieving "Life Rank". The family moved to San Marcos in 1939 where A.C. graduated from San Marcos High School in 1941. During this time he began his lifelong hobby as a Amateur Ham Radio Operator. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. Later in 1944, he met and married the love of his life, Hazel Parrish in San Antonio, Texas.
After an honorable discharge in 1945, A.C. began his career working at Kelly Air Force Base for the Air Force Logistic Center. During his tenure, he received several achievement awards from the USAF for saving the U.S. Government millions through his studies, plans and logistic implementations of more cost effect avionic system measures. He worked primarily with the USAF logistic teams on the B-58, C-5A, B-70 and the C-141.
A.C. was a charter member of La Coste Lions Club and a Master Mason for the Harlandale Lodge, including serving as Worshipful Master. One of his favorite volunteer projects was working with foster care children with the Masons.
In 1986, he retired from Kelly AFB. He continued his hobby as an amateur ham radio operator, and building computers and fresh water fishing. In 1999, he was commended by the U.S. Navy for his volunteer work transmitting The Secretary of Defense's 50th annual Armed Forces Day message from Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) Region Three.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, James Wilkinson and son-in-law, Jeff W. Henderson.
A.C. is survived by his wife of 72 years, Hazel; his daughters, Sharon Henderson of San Marcos and Pamela Passant and husband, Fred of Castle Rock, CO.; granddaughters, Laura Humphries and husband, Mark of San Antonio and their children, Hank and Liv Humphries; Jennifer Ruccia and husband, Don of Las Vegas, NV and their children, Mandi White Calf, Jonathan Berve and Emili Ruccia; Tiffany Roach and husband, Todd of Dallas, TX and their son, Reese; grandson, Matthew Passant of Denver, CO; 3 great-great grandchildren and a brother, Seth Victor Heath of Houston, TX.
He filled the lives of his friends and family with love and humor. A.C. will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in A.C.'s memory to the The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.
A Celebration of A.C.'s life is pending due to the health and travel needs of several relatives.
