Obituary

Alvin Clifford Sondrol, 89, of Reynolds/Grand Forks, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at Altru Hospital with his family by his side. Alvin Sondrol was born on February 24, 1915, to Asle & Caroline (Quaman) Sondrol in Bentru Township in Grand Forks County where he grew up and attended school. He worked on the farm with his dad until he joined the service. He enlisted with the Army Air Corps and served with the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. He met Mary Avron and the couple was married on November 24, 1945, in Climax, MN. Alvin & Mary spent their whole life on the farm where Alvin has his own farmstead. Mary died on May 16, 1985. Alvin also worked for American Crystal Sugar for 17 years. During the winters Alvin would help at the ASC office. Alvin retired in 1983. Alvin was a lifetime member of the East Grand Forks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3817, he served on school boards, church boards, and was very active in the community of Reynolds. In 1987, Alvin took a trip to Norway with his sister Gladys, which was a very memorable time and a wonderful experience for him. Alvin enjoyed fishing, reading the newspaper, and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. Alvin is survived by: Sons - Clifford Sondrol Crookston, MN; Marvin (Christine) Sondrol Reynolds, ND; Stephen (Betty) Sondrol, East Grand Forks, MN; Sister - Gladys Fearon; 9 Grandchildren; 10 Great-grandchildren; Several Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded in death by: Parents; Sisters - Emma Sondrol, Marie Larson, & Anne Mar; Brothers - Selmer, Elmer, & Knute Sondrol. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rosendal Lutheran Cemetery % Amundson Funeral Home, PO 12012 Grand Forks, ND 58201. Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2004, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Thompson, ND. Visitation: Thursday, December 16, 2004, from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks and 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church.
