Alyce Amor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 4, 2024.
Alyce Mae Amor, 87, of Santa Cruz, went to live with her Lord forever on June 12, 2024, after a prolonged illness.

Alyce was born on September 13, 1936, to John and Edith Kolenc in Waukegan, Illinois. In 1952 she was born again through the ministry of Billy Graham. As a teen she lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, volunteering on the maternity ward as a candy striper and graduated from Pioneer High School. She married the forever-love-of-her-life, Robert H. Amor, on August 20, 1955. During her 68 years of faithful marriage she was blessed with four children, Robert (Michele), William (Maria), Andrew (Ally) and Connie (Jeff) Holman, nine grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Mary, Peter, Matthew, Jessica, Heidi, Jackson and Lily along with ten great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ronnie, Kai, Cooper, Manzi, Quezi, Kai, Ava, Amora Rose and James.

She received much joy being a loving wife and fulltime mother. Living in Grand Rapids and Grand Haven, Michigan she ventured into studying fine arts at Aquinas College. Alyce lectured at churches and community centers demonstrating the spiritual allegory of The Potter and the Clay (Jeremiah 18), testifying as an "overcomer" herself. She sculpted beautiful porcelain angels featured in Open Studios, numerous art shows and galleries.

In 1982, she and Bob moved to Santa Cruz settling into their dream house on a cliff overlooking Monterey Bay designed by her architect husband and built by them working side-by-side.

She was a keen observer of nature, drawing and painting an ABC book with imaginative characters like Millie Mouse, tropical fish and shorebirds. Alyce so loved little children that she became a docent at the GR natural history museum. She was a sweet friend, encouraging and inspirational. Her local swim group cherished her as she took care of her body swimming 3 times a week.

Alyce's devotion to the Lord was a lifelong passion as was her study and meditation on the Word of God. She was a gifted Bible teacher for Bible Study Fellowship and Stonecroft, growing closer to both the women and to Jesus. Her life scripture was Psalm 139 and she prayed fervently for all whom she knew and loved.

In her well-worn Bible she wrote these words, Do not be sad when I'm gone. When I die, in the twinkling of an eye, I shall be with Jesus. The flesh dies but my spirit lives. I've gone home to a beautiful place prepared by Him. I will wait for you with open arms. Love always in Christ, your Mom, Grandma, Daughter, Wife... Friend.

A celebration of her life service will be held at High Street Community Church on July 20 at 11:00.
