POLK, Amanda Lee (RPN)
Suddenly, at home, Amanda passed away in her sleep on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the age of 28 years. Cherished daughter of Cynthia (nee Honeywell) and York Polk. Amanda was predeceased by her infant brother Jason, and was the much loved big sister of Alexandra. Dear granddaughter of Allan and the late Helen Honeywell and Laurie Dignard and the late York Polk Sr. She will also be dearly missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends - especially Jay, Jordan, Kyle, Allyson and her canine companion Buddy. Though faced with many challenges in her all too short life, Amanda is remembered by how she met each one with determination and the strength to continue on, always trying to maintain a positive outlook and helping others. Friends may call at the
Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes

on Wednesday, January 27 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Service celebrating Amanda's life will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. For those wishing, please consider a donation in Amanda's memory to the Chronic Pain Management Program (Ottawa Hospital Foundation) or to an organization supporting Mental Health. Dearest Cynthia and family,

I wanted to share something of my "Amanda" experience with you.

I met Amanda in August when she came into treatment at the ED Program. I had already been in the program a few months and was getting ready to graduate but still had a few more weeks to go.
Lucky for me because I was gifted with the wonderful opportunity of spending those weeks in the company of your daughter.
I remember when I first met Amanda, her first day of admission and as tired as she was she had this amazing smile on her face. Not just a smile, but a truly genuine heartfelt smile. I was immediately taken by her.
We shared something in common, our ED and also chronic pain. She shared stories of her injured foot and showed me pictures which I found quite remarkable.. how a person who has gone through so much could be standing there smiling and wondering how I was doing..
Amanda was selfless, loving, caring, kind hearted, courteous, respectful, sharing, giving and quite humorous.
I was the one who took that very funny video of her and a fellow co patient lip synching in the EDP room. She knew how to laugh and how to inspire, she new when to give advice and when to remain silent. She was a true gem.
She shared with me on numerous occasions her love for her family, I recall here talking about the "Budster" and how you and her father were her best friends... Actually, If I recall correctly one of you was her best bud and one of you was her best friend. Remarkable.
She gifted me with an orange rope bracelet which she said were the colours of her Chronic pain group. I am wearing it today and thinking of her fondly and holding you all very close in prayer. That's another thing Amanda did as well, said silent Grace before her meals. How remarkable.
May God be with you all during this time, I pray that he may lift you up and hold you ever so gently.

God Bless,

Sylvie Beaudoin

To the Polk family,
Amanda was one of my heroes as she always tried to look on the bright side of life and help others, no matter what was happening. I will always remember her rendition of the "Tigger" song during a grade 8 math test as she tried to solve a problem on the test.

I had the blessing of being Amanda's educator at Saint Elizabeth. She was an amazing young woman with a smile that could light up a room and a personality that everyone couldn't help but love. She was part of our family here at Saint Elizabeth and was going to be an amazing nurse. I, still, feel as though she is with us. We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
