Amos Eugene "Gene" Hood, age 85, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on March 4, 1940, in Winston County, Alabama, Gene lived an authentic and spirited life, marked by fun, laughter, close friendships, and a love for family. His warmth and quick wit left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him and his trademark cowboy hat.

Gene began his professional journey as a radio disc jockey in North Central Arkansas. With his distinctive voice and vibrant personality, he quickly became a memorable presence on the airwaves. His time behind the microphone left an enduring impression on listeners and reflected his natural charisma and love for communication.

Later in life, Gene transitioned into business ownership and founded That Tile Guy in Houston, TX. Through this venture, he built a reputation for quality craftsmanship and dedication to his work. He also spent many years living and working in Memphis, TN, further expanding his professional reach and personal experiences.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Jana Bell (William), of Jackson, Mississippi; two grandsons, Jake Bell and Payne Bell; six nieces: Cathy (David) Luraschi, Barbara (Billy) Hudson, Gail (Tommy) Raiteri, Sherrie (Gary) Lusk, Sharon Latinik (Walter), and Janet Geeslin; and one nephew, Tommy Griffith (Tina).

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Elbert Hood Sr. and Gertrude White Hood; two brothers, Charles Hood (Nettie) and Jimmy Hood; and a sister, Betty Hooser (Robert).

Gene will be laid to rest at Tyronza Cemetery in Tyronza, Ark. Services will be announced at a later date.
