Amy GAMBLE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 12 to Aug. 17, 2015.
GAMBLE, Amy Miyamoto Was born on December 1, 1937 in Seto, Japan and died on May 22, 2015 in San Rafael, CA. Amy grew up during World War II with five brothers and sisters and was highly active in sports, including volleyball, track and field and ping pong. Upon graduation from high school, she attended sewing school where she learned professional skills that she would use throughout her life as a tailor and homemaker. She met and married her lifelong partner, Tom Gamble, who was stationed in Nagoya as a pilot instructor for the Japanese Defense Forces. Their life together as an Air Force family took them all over the US and Japan. They were joined by various pets along the way, including Sam, Tut and Max. Amy enjoyed being the highest roller in her bowling league, the shortstop on her softball team and the lowest handicap female golfer on the course. Upon Tom's retirement from the military, they moved to Albany, NY, where they resided for 18 years. Amy and Tom spent their golden years in Santa Rosa, CA, where they created their dream home, replete with tatami room, Japanese tub and bountiful gardens. Amy was active in the Military Officers Association of America Wives' Club and enjoyed modeling, gardening, cooking, traveling, reading, ikebana, all varieties of handicrafts - and spending time with her grandkids. Amy is fondly remembered by many as a great summer pool party host and surrogate mother for many of Meg's friends whose parents did not live locally. Ever tenacious, Amy learned how to swim (and dive, but only while laughing, to get the nerves out) at age 60. Amy was predeceased by her husband, and her son, Tom Gamble III. She is survived by her daughter, Meg Gamble; grandchildren, Mia and Tess Etem of San Rafael and Giacomo Gamble of St. Augustine, FL; as well as family in Japan, notably her dearest sister Hiroko "Donchan" Sato. Amy is interred at Santa Rosa Memorial Park Cemetery, where half of her ashes were buried; the other half were scattered over the Golden Gate Bridge from an airplane.

Meg, I heard this news recently from Yuki. I am sorry that you've suffered another loss. Your Mum sounds like someone blessed with boundless energy and I can see her in your face. May she rest in peace, perhaps driving her "ritoru" car amongst the clouds.
