Amy Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2024.
Amy Lynn Johnson, Co-founder and CEO of Skyline Scaffold, died on August 22, 2024 at age 48. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brave 10-month battle with an aggressive cancer. Amy was born on August 3, 1976, in Sacramento California.

Amy is survived by step-father Michael McCurdy; siblings Jenifer Beach, David Johnson (Becky Herz), M. Scott Johnson (Camella), Keri Anderson (Jay), Tyler McCurdy (Amy), Mindyn Gunderson (Clint) and Kelsey Proctor; nieces/nephews Sage, Ash, Joshua, Andrew, Amber, Robert, Samantha, Seth, Cole, Kodey, Jeremiah, Andrew, Kaely, CJ, Kamryn, Hunter, Braedyn, Bryson, and Brennan; life-long friends Phelan Evans and Kathryn O'Connell, and many other close friends whom she cherished. She was preceded in death by her father Wayne Johnson and mother Linda McCurdy.

Amy attended Sacramento Country Day School from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation. She remained involved with her alma-mater in a variety of roles: Alumni Director, Medallion Advisor, 50th Anniversary Reunion Weekend Chair, and Board of Trustee Member. She attended Tulane University 1995-1999, and graduated with a double major in Sociology and Psychology. Amy was a member of Kapa Alpha Theta and served a term as President for her sorority chapter.

Amy cultivated and led her family's legacy in the scaffold and access industry. She worked as the Controller for Big City Access in Houston, TX, from 2003-2016. In 2005, she co-founded Skyline Scaffold with Linda and Michael McCurdy, and assumed the additional role of CFO for the Sacramento based company. In 2020, she purchased Skyline Scaffold with her brother, David Johnson, and Amy became the company's CEO.

Amy was recognized by the Sacramento Business Journal as a leading woman in construction. She was celebrated by the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) when she was awarded the Outstanding Service Award in 2020. She was a member of the SAIA Executive Committee since 2022. Amy was also a member of the SAIA Education Foundation for 12 years, where she served terms as both President and Treasurer. Additionally, the prestigious SAIA Coupling Pin Award was set to be presented to Amy this October 2024.

Beyond her achievements in the construction industry, Amy was an extraordinary and optimistic human being. Whether it was stray pets, old houses, or quirky people - Amy could see the potential, and she gave her time, energy, and love generously to help everyone achieve it. She sought adventure, and traveled both the physical and spiritual world in search of experiencing a rich and vibrant life. She was heroically a person you could count on - THE PERSON you could count on. If there was a problem or need, she showed up, no questions asked, and gave her love, support, and anything else at her disposal to help. She tirelessly elevated and encouraged everyone around her. Her absence leaves an immense hole in the world, but her legacy will live on through all of us who love her.

Amy Johnson's celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am October 12, 2024 at the Annunciation Hellenic Center, 600 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento.

I remember Amy as one of the kindest, nicest, most pleasant students I have taught in my 45-year career. She seemed to have a permanent smile and a constant twinkle in her eye.

I was Amy's teacher at Sacramento Country Day School. I remember so well talking to her about whether she should apply to Tulane. A close friend of hers was applying, and Amy worried that she, therefore, shouldn't. I encouraged her to try. Both girls were accepted and attended the school, but Amy's friend transferred after her freshman year whereas Amy stayed on to graduate and, as her obituary mentions, eventually became president of her sorority and an active alumna. It was typical of Amy to be so concerned about upstaging her friend. It was also typical that she threw her whole heart into the school, as she also did for SCDS.

One of my many favorite memories of Amy is that after I had surgery and was feeling up to it, Amy and Trish picked me up from my house and took me out to a nice dinner where we sat outside so I didn´t feel so cooped up. We caught up and shared many laughs. Amy always went above and beyond just being a great manager. She truly cared about the people working for her.

During the beginning of COVID both my husband and I got very ill. During this time Amy sent a traveling nurse to my house to provide care and vitamin shots, for not only me, her employee but for my husband who wasn´t her employee. This was just who Amy was. Very kind, generous and loyal. Thank you Amy for your kindness, your generosity, your laughter and your friendship.
