Amy (Kurschinski) Heathcock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2023.
Amy Joleen (Kurschinski) Heathcock, 53, of La Marque, Texas, passed away on May 25, 2023, following a cancer diagnosis earlier in the month.

Amy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 17, 1969, to Patricia and Lawrence Kurschinski. She attended the Des Moines Traditional School and Harding Junior High, and was an alumna of Des Moines North High School.

Amy lived most of her adult life in Texas with her loving husband, Steve Heathcock. She was an amazing mom to her sons, Zachary and Alec, the most valued treasures of her life.

Those who had the immense joy of knowing Amy will always remember her infectious laughter and her comedic antics, as well as her love for her dogs. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved to fish and kayak with Steve in the Gulf of Mexico or spend quiet times at the Galveston walkway. She was also an avid runner. Another of Amy and Steve's favorite pastimes was cruising; they enjoyed a cruise together just before she became ill.

Amy is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Pam and Melissa. Surviving are her husband, Steve, her sons, Zachary (Stacey) and Alec of LaMarque, Texas; mother-in-law Eva Heathcock of San Antonio, TX; sister Beth (Dean) McCarthy of Campbell Hall, NY; sister Lisa (Ray) Salloum of Clive, IA; brother Doug (Sue) Kurschinski of Southport, NC; sister Andrea (Mike) Overbergen of Oskaloosa, IA; sister-in-law Kelli (Vern) Wheling of Santa Fe, TX; sister-in-law Lee Ann (Chris) Stackhouse of San Antonio, TX, and 13 nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to a celebration of Amy's life, which will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 2 to 5 PM at the Speed Lyceum Student Center at Grandview University, 2822 E 14th St., Des Moines (located in Bldg 103).

I remember taking mom to a U2 concert down here. It was her birthday and we made a day of it, I got off work early and we went and had some food at tgi friday's just before. She had a really good time doing all that on her birthday.
We also did two 5k's together one just her and I at NRG stadium and the other with my aunt Beth. she also really enjoyed those times, but what I'll miss the most is the times her and I would make a day to go to the beach. just being together was enjoyable and talking about life, I miss going to you for advice. I love you mom. Z.

To Steve and Amy´s sons:
I´m deeply saddened to learn of Amy´s passing. I very much enjoyed working with her for many years. She had an amazing fun spirit and tremendas work ethic. I loved visiting with her - it was about work and about her family. She was so proud of you 3.
I pray you are all doing well and may her memory be a blessing.

Devastated by the news of Amy's passing. So grateful for Steve and her sons for making Amy so happy. In the short time during high school and working together at Wendy's, Amy had a significantly positive impact on my life, for which I am eternally grateful.

I´m so sorry to hear about Amy I lived by her growing up and we ran around Madison Elementary in the summers... riding bikes, playing wall ball, and cruising the neighborhood. She messaged me on FB about my kids ... and I know she was so proud of her boys through our conversations!
