AMY DOROTHY (PETERS) LAWSON
February 20, 1923 – January 21, 2018
Amy was born to Hazel and Richard Peters in her grandparents' house on their homestead near Mullingar, SK. Amy's mother found it necessary to move to Ontario for work and Amy was raised by her beloved grandparents, Caroline and Joseph Stacey, along with her older sister Winnifred and her younger brother Howard. Although life on the farm was not easy she had many fond memories of her grandparents and often told stories of growing up.
Amy met Cecil Lawson when he was hired by neighbourhood farms to help with livestock and horses. They married on October 20, 1940, in Weyburn, SK, where Cecil was presently working. They started their family with the birth of Hope and then Marlene. When the girls were toddlers they moved to Turner Valley, AB., and it was there that their sons Terry and Danny were born. Amy and Cec decided to go back to Saskatchewan to ranch in the Qu'appelle Valley and continued building their family. Peggy and Lillian were born and life was very hard as Amy raised six children without running water or electricity, as well as tending a huge garden. In 1957, they made the decision to move to Regina and, shortly after, Colleen was born. Amy worked hard in the city as well, not only looking after her large family, but working full time at Sears.
She was an amazing baker and her family and many others fondly remember her homemade bread, cinnamon buns, air buns, pies, date balls and all the other wonderful goodies. Family was everything to Amy. When asked what she would like to do for Mother's Day, her answer never varied "have a big picnic with the family" and then she would make most of the food! She was a tireless worker, never stopping to ponder how tough the job ahead, simply got to it, rising early each day and making the most of every minute.
Amy was a wonderful storyteller and loved to sing. She didn't read us stories from a book but told stories, sang songs and recited poems that were passed down from her grandmother …and of course her yodeling was historic! She had a close relationship with each and every family member and remembered birthdays down to the youngest great-great-grandchildren. She had frequent visits from family near and far – no distance was too great to visit Grandma Lawson! She also enjoyed close relationships with people she met from every walk of life. She loved church and never missed a Sunday service with Chaplain Darrell Wood. He and his wife Kelly held a special place in her heart. Their kindness and personal visits were very dear to her.
Mom/Grandma was so loved and will be deeply missed by all her family, their spouses/ partners and relatives of both the Lawson and Peters families.

Great-grandchildren: Eric, Jeff, Kyla, Rachel, Amanda, Waylon, Josh, Emma, Hunter, Victoria, Spencer, Cameron, Nicole, Tara, Mike, Alicia, Jordan, Melissa, Kayla, Taylor, Kalika, Chloe, Lawson, Ari, Jaisee, Braeden, Brittni, Amy, Kadie, Jules, Stella, Avery
Great-great-grandchildren: Dylon, Brooklynn, Alexandra, Emily, Morgan, Cashton, Linley, Taevyn, Cooper, Emma, Damian, Jai, Kieran, Carter, Chloe, Connor
The family would like to express thanks to all the staff at Sandstone Lodge, Tudor Manor, and especially the kind and compassionate doctors and staff of Unit 73 at the Rockyview Hospital.
At Amy's request, there will not be a formal service so, instead, find a recording of George Strait's All My Exes Live in Texas and enjoy …. Amy loved to sing that song.
