Nelsonville - Amy D. McKenzie, 49 of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 in Columbus surrounded by family. Born January 1, 1971, she was the biological daughter of Linda Foster and the adoptive daughter of the late Glenn Foster.
She was a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and raising her kids and grandkids. She maintained a flower garden nearly every year, and found peace and enjoyment when tending to her variety of flowers. She had a love for all sea animals, especially sea turtles and killer whales, and was fascinated by the subject of marine biology. She enjoyed putting together large complicated puzzles, and solving every form of puzzle she could get her hands on. She would often listen to her favorite genre of music, 80s music, and was interested in crime tv shows and classic horror movies. She spent the majority of her time with her family, raising and taking care of her kids and grandkids, who love her dearly. She often went to the movies and the pool, biked, and played board games and card games with her children. She planned all family activities and made sure that she and her family were happy. She had a passion for all things artistic, creative, and crafty, with a broad knowledge of sewing. She was a knowledgeable, intelligent woman, always reading and learning new things, stemming from an enthusiasm for the pursuit of education that she instilled in her children. She informed herself on politics and social issues, speaking and debating on issues openly with her family. She believed that everyone should be treated fairly and kindly, and approached every situation and person with an open mind and heart. She was a kind, informed, approachable, open-minded person who never hurt anyone, was always open and excited to meet new people, persevered in the face of adversity, and always helped those in need. She faced many challenges in her life, but never allowed them to deter her from doing the right thing or accomplishing whatever she set out to do. She had high emotional intelligence and was the glue that held her family together, ensuring that they never stayed apart for too long. She was supportive of friends and family, and was often the shoulder that people leaned on in hard times. She believed in and loved her family, and thought the world of her children when others didn’t. She was beloved by friends, family, and everyone around her. She was an example of altruism, love, kind heartedness, and generosity to everyone around her, and her memory is a blessing to anyone who met her.
Besides her biological mother, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Jeffery Lynn McKenzie; four children, Travis (Kayla) Foster, Amanda Foster, Dakota McKenzie, Asia McKenzie; three grandchildren, Landon Foster, Saphire Foster, Averie Foster; and many beloved siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her adoptive father, she is preceded in death by her son, Jeffery McKenzie, Jr.
Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home where private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Beaver Union Cemetery in Beaver, Ohio. The family ask donations be made to assist with end of life expenses.
