ANA MELO Obituary
Surrounded by her loving family, Ana Melo of Edmonton passed away peacefully on May 7, 2013 at the age of 49 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving parents, Joao and Margarida Melo; two brothers: Jose (Maria de Lurdes) and John (Laurine); nieces and nephews: Debbie (Dinis), Ryan (Brianna), Jeffrey (Emma), Kimberly (Darren) and Dyanna; great-niece and nephew, Avaya and Rylan as well as numerous relatives and a multitude of dear friends.
Prayers 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Church, 12311 - 55 Street where Reverend Marinaldo Batista will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
The Family would like to extend a special Thank-You to Dr. Andrew Scarfe and his staff and to the Homecare nurses for the care and compassion given to Ana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue N.W., Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2.

My dearest Ana, I cant believe its been a year already. I can still hear your voice, hear your laughter and see your bright smile. Not a day passes that I don't think of you. I miss you and will always love you. No one will ever come into my life who will fill the empty spot you have left.

Hi Tia,
A month has passed and I still can't believe you are not here. There are so many times that I just want to pick up the phone and call you. When my grandpa passed away in December you were the first one I called to seek comfort. I miss being able to talk to you whenever I want.
I know you are in a place where there is no cancer and no pain. You are no longer suffering and with that I find peace.
I so wish I could share with you my joy and excitement about my upcoming wedding and the birth of Noah but I know you are looking down and sharing every moment with me.
I love you very much and miss you so much.

I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. We met while attending a couple of evening classes at the University of Alberta in 1989/1990. Your infectious smile, kind and gentle nature and that ‘je ne sais quoi' make you one of those special people that someone never forgets.

Tia Ana I love you & miss you so much words can not explain. I miss the many phone calls you would make to me to see how I was doing & how Avaya was. Avaya keeps telling me that you are with Jesus & I know you must be watching over her just like you did here in the physical world. I still can't fully believe that you have left me & my family. I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful & caring role model in my life. Avaya is also so lucky to have had you to show her what compassion & love feels like. I know I must go on & I hope that you are proud of me & the woman I have become after all I did have such an amazing woman in my life to influence me. I love you & Miss you more than anything. My love, we've laid you to rest now and you are finally at peace. You were half of my life and I cannot explain how empty and numb I'm feeling right now that you are no longer here, the sadness, and the tremendous yearning for one more day, one more phone call, one more laugh, a cry, another touch, and although I struggle with understanding why someone so beautiful was made to suffer like you did and why you were taken from all of us so soon, why life's circumstances happened the way they did, or why you left before I could make it back to say good-bye, I know, slowly but surely, I will begin to heal and reflect more on your life and our life together than I will on your passing. Your life gave me and so many others so much enjoyment, love, happiness and many wonderful memories too beautiful to ever forget. I know that your body may no longer walk among us but, I know deep down in my being that you will always be close at hand watching over us all. Until we are together again – I love you! Words escape me. Ana was such a shining light in the Department of Education. We were all so shocked and sad when she had to go off on sick leave a few years ago, but her memory lives on even now. Few people touch people in the way that Ana could. Her bright smile will always be a good memory. To the Melo family - I am so sorry for your loss. Cherish your treasured memories and keep her spirit alive in your hearts forever.

Ana, It's hard to have to say goodbye but we will always cherish your memory deep in our hearts forever. You fought with such courage and optimism while being ever the lady to the end. No one could have asked more of you. Your flame has gone out but it will always burn brightly in the memories of all those that knew and loved you.
