DROUIN, MSGR. André
Msgr. André Drouin passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the age of 78 years. Born in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Gaëtan Drouin and the late Anna Bourgon. Fondly remembered by his fellow clergy colleagues, he is survived by his sisters; Michèle Ménard (Marcel), Jocelyne Knoppers (Jake) and Marie-Josée Kravis (Henry); his brothers: Pierre Drouin (Louise) and Franois Drouin (Lise), as well as many nieces, nephews
and friends. Predeceased by his brother Jacques Drouin (Huguette). Msgr. Drouin
was ordained to the priesthood on June 6, 1958 by Msgr. Marie-Joseph Lemieux, OP., Archbishop of Ottawa and was named a Prelate of Honour by Pope John Paul II in 1996. As a diocesan priest, his parish ministry is probably identified mostly with his tenure as pastor of St. Anne's Parish in Ottawa where he spent almost thirty years. His ministry as chaplain extended to a number of groups such as the Régiment de Hull, several Veterans' groups, St. Vincent de Paul Societies of Canada, Knights of Columbus and the Daughters of Isabelle, as well as the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. In addition to his studies in Philosophy and Theology, Msgr. Drouin also has degrees and graduate certificates in Geography, Catechetics and Pastoral Studies. He exemplified Saint Paul's mission, commitment to the local Church, commitment to intellectual research and commitment to others, especially those who are most abandoned or in special need. Condolences will be received on Tuesday, June 19 as of 9:30 a.m. at Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, 385 Sussex Dr., followed by funeral celebration at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Notre-Dame Cemetery.
