Andras Szontagh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2022.
Andras "Andy" Szontagh passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, after a brave journey with a progressive illness. He was 47 years old.

Andy was born on October 29, 1974, in Dallas, Texas to first-generation parents Ferenc "Frank" and Ilona "Ili" Szontagh from Budapest, Hungary. The youngest among his cousins, he quickly became the favorite with his mischievous smile and boundless energy. He graduated from Berkner High School in Richardson and went on to attend Dallas County Community College and the University of North Texas.

Andy's one true love was music. It all started with the countless nights he spent combing through the shelves at Bill's Records and Tapes, chasing the sounds that made him happy. He taught himself to spin and his talent was undeniable. He developed his own style and soon he became a sought-after DJ and crowd favorite at the Lizard Lounge and various other venues in the Dallas nightlife scene. Influenced by hard trance music, he began making his own remixes on CDs to create a unique sound that his friends and fans still refer to as essential tracks on the soundtrack of their lives. His energy, sound, and style influenced many and became an inspiration for others who followed in his footsteps. By the mid-2000s he traded in the turntables for skateboards, longboards, rollerblades, roller skates, BMX bikes, mountain bikes, and remote-controlled cars - and he mastered them all, winning countless competitions along the way.

Andy never met a stranger. He was thoughtful, giving, and kind. He was full of life and was energized by his family, friends, and fans, always finding opportunities to make lasting memories with those he loved. He is survived by his loving family Lisa Hargitai-Szontagh, Viktor Szucs, Tibor Pinter, Mitchael Jones, Michelle Jones-Adler, Ricky Jones, Sean Darnold, Morgan Stermer, Grant Adler, Cameron Hargitai, Cole Szucs, Tori Szucs, Tamas Pinter, Adam Pinter, Andrea Szontagh, Peter Szontagh, Nikolette Szontagh, and Andras Szontagh. Not mentioned by name are the countless friends he's made and the lives he touched through his hobbies and music. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ili, aunt Gail, caregivers David Craven and John Anderson, and pups Tank and Psycho.

In keeping with Andy's generous spirit, his earthly remains have been entrusted to the care of UT Southwestern Medical Center to aid in the advancement of medical research in hopes of improving the lives of those afflicted with Huntington's Disease. A private memorial is planned for the immediate family, followed by a public celebration of life tentatively scheduled for 5:00 PM on July 23rd at the I'll Do Club, 4322 Elm Street, Dallas, Texas 75226. Further details will be available on Andy's Facebook pages soon. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Huntington's Disease Society of America https://hdsa.org/get-involved/donation-opportunities/ or the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center https://engage.utsouthwestern.edu/donate-now.

We share the same birthday (im 1983) and he invited a friend and I to the dj booth at the Lizard Lounge and gave me a personal shot out. I was a Sr in high school and it was one of the best nights. Extremely talented and kind man. He is missed.

There are no words. Andy protected me as a kid. He was always the coolest guy. He took the time to make sure a girl from the neighborhood who he barely knew wasn´t hurt one night. I never forgot him for this. Later one we ended up working at Lizard Lounge together. He was epic in every way.

Andy would frequent Free Play Arcade all the time. I worked there, and he would always give me a big hug.....he literally would move tables and chairs to get to me to hug me and say he loves me. What a great guy he was, I would tell him, I love you too bro and I'm happy you're here. The pandemic cut me off from alotta people but I always wondered about him. I'm glad I met him, I'm glad I was able to be a friend to him..he was my friend and I will miss those hugs from him, I will miss him trying to get me to play Pac Man with him at the arcade and I had to tell him "bro I have to go cook, it's busy " lol
I'm bummed out about finding out so late.....Andy was a part of our community at the arcade and our friendship will never be forgotten. I love you Andy, you are missed.

I´m very sad to see the news. Andy was one of a kind for sure. Lifted countless people up with his energy and sets. "Fly with me to the stars tonight, to a place beyond the sky".

I knew Andy as a teen. He was always so friendly. I literally watched him walk in to a room of strangers and immediately introduce his self. His humor and energy was prevalent in so many cases.

The world needs more Andys.

Andy was the very first person I had ever met in Dallas Texas! I was helping a friend relocate from Austin and had swung by the Dallas Galleria in search of a new belt. Walked into a store called Signal and there stood my new life long friend! Andy suggested that I check out the Aqua Lounge in Deep Ellum and the rest became history. May his kind, beautiful soul rest in peace. Thank You for ALL of the countless memories! You will be deeply missed. ~XoXo.

Andy, I had no idea your illness was this far along. Your memory will forever live on in the music tracks that you would play each week at Lizard Lounge and all the other venues. You and I had a connection because of your love of music, animals, and people. Thank you for all that you did for the Dallas club scene and for being such an awesome person. Much love to you and I'll see you soon.
