Andrea Meyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2024.
Andrea Silva Meyer, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on June 26, 2024. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in April 2015, she fought a courageous 9-year battle and ultimately left this world surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Raised in New Orleans and a resident of Harahan, Andrea was the cherished daughter of the late Carol Augustin Silva and William Silva, Jr. She was a devoted wife to Terry John Lewis Meyer, a loving mother to Madison Caroline Meyer and Keeley Grace Meyer, and a dear sister to William Silva, III. Andrea is also survived by her aunt Peggy Willoz and her uncle Lionel E. Augustin, Jr., along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends who will forever remember the beautiful, giving, and devoted person she was.

Andrea started her educational journey at Holy Rosary, moved on to Cabrini High School, continued at Loyola University, and ultimately graduated from Delgado Radiology. She initially worked as a mutuels clerk at the Fairgrounds Race Course and later served in radiation oncology at Charity Hospital. However, Andrea found her true passion and calling working at Carrollton Veterinary Hospital in 2006. Her love for animals was boundless, and she was a lifelong supporter of the ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society, and Alley Cat Allies. She often drove several times a week to feed feral cats, embodying her deep compassion for all creatures.

Andrea's faith was a cornerstone of her life; she deeply believed in the good in people and was a devout Catholic. Her love story with her husband Terry began in the 6th grade, and blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Married in 1996, Andrea was devoted to her family, cherishing every moment with her husband and children. She dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being, celebrating their successes with pride and joy.

Besides her family, Andrea's other great love was the beach. She found pure happiness in her trips to the beach with her family. Just being together, feeling the waves, and walking on the sand brought her so much joy. The beach, especially Cancun, was always her home away from home, a place where she felt truly at ease and content.

Andrea's kindness, generosity, and loyalty made her a devoted friend to many. She was a beautiful person inside and out, whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her beautiful spirit and giving nature left a void that can never be filled, but all who knew her are better for having had her in their lives. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society, or Alley Cat Allies, in honor of Andrea's love for animals.

Close relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Andrea's life on August 24, 2024. For location and time details, please email [email protected].

Madison and Keeley, I just found out about your mom passing and my heart goes out to both of you. I knew her from the Carrollton Veternarian Hospital where she was always so pleasant. I remember seeing you both several times when I brought in my two Labs. I will miss seeing her with her sweet smile. Always remember that she loved you very much and will always be with you.

I was blessed to cross paths with Andrea and all the caring folks at Carrollton Vet many years ago. It was apparent from day one that Andrea is one of those special souls who radiate goodness. Andrea bettered the lives of all of us fortunate to meet her.

Hi Andrea, my memories are our HRS times. We had a joking love and hate friendship . I admired you how you worked so hard to achieve excellence in school and me barely made it by. You would get mad at me for not trying harder. Also enjoyed watching you help HRS girls volleyball & softball teams win many championships . Also It was great to see you and Terry share your lives together for so long. You and I reconnect few years ago on FB both sharing pictures of the love for animals. Rest in peace my friend you will be truly missed. His some HRS pictures. Last one is what you wrote in my 1979 yearbook . I still laugh. Thanks for caring.

Since day one, you were there for me.
How you've loved, cared, and believed in me has been all the difference in my life. How blessed I have been to call you my sister.

Always greeted me with "Hey my girl!" Mrs. Andrea you were like a second mom to me. I will miss sitting in your room with you and Madison and talking about anything and every thing. I would laugh when you would bring us to school and we would be late because you couldn´t skip feeding your strays.

I loved hearing "hey my girl!" She was like a second mom to me. I will miss sitting in your room with you and Madison and talking about anything and everything. My favorite times was when you would bring us to school and we would be late because you had to feed your strays. I love you so much Mrs. Andrea

I remember the day she was born. She was very small. But a lot of dark hair & beautiful dark eyes. She was my baby doll.

Andrea , I miss you so much my sweet friend. You were a force of nature, a warrior and a friend , wife and mother like no other. Your courage the last few years inspired me and I know countless others. I can only hope to honor your memory by living my life with the same fearlessness and same passion and the same love you showed every day. I´ll miss our talks, our conversations about our families and memories from the past. But the thing I´ll miss the most is making you laugh. Your smile always made my day. After every conversation we ever had , when we had to say goodbye, we always ended it with "I love you!" Goodbye my sweet friend, I love you! Sal

I will always remember her laugh, her living 2 houses down from us, how freezing cold her bedroom was in that house, her shenanigans with my sister, Kerrie and other memories of Endymion parade and birthday parties for our first babies. May she be at peace with Ms. Carol holding her tight and smiling while she continues to watch over her two precious girls. (and Terry!) sending love, tight hugs and prayers that tears turn into smiles with the wonderful memories of your mom. We loved her. Kim Dieudonne Deckwa

my strong, courageous & loving mother. i miss you dearly, i look for you in every single thing i do. i take pictures of the sunset as if it was you painting the sky looking down on me. not a day goes by i wish you were here by my side but i know god is taking care of you. you were such a strong mother who fought so hard for your 2 kids and husband but couldn´t fight any longer. we are never angry or upset AT you for going, because you fought so long and hard. cancer is a horrible disease i would not wish on my worse enemy, but you were given 10 lucky years to stay alive for your family. i love you so much & hope to see you again
