Andrew Bryant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 27, 2009.
BRYANT, Andrew David Frank December 25, 1963 - January 24, 2009 Andy Bryant, beloved husband of Terrie and father to Tessa and Sean, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Andy was born in Montreal, and raised in Edmonton and Calgary where he met Terrie on a blind date. Andy embraced Terrie's love of the outdoors, back country skiing and mountain biking. Together, they had Tessa and Sean and built a happy and memorable life. Visits to the Maritimes, annual gatherings in Windermere and Jasper Park Lodge were among the most memorable. The "Core 4" expressed love everyday to one another. Andy was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend of remarkable integrity, deep conviction, unfailing loyalty, good humour and enduring optimism. Andy was "Mr. Make Things Happen" and lived his work through a rewarding career. He began this career as a youth volunteer with the PC Party of Canada and later as an Executive Assistant to the Hon. Don Mazankowski, Deputy Prime Minister of Canada in Ottawa during the early 90's. He returned to Alberta as a development executive for Alberta charitable and industry organizations and subsequently in management positions with the horse industry. Andy was the longest serving President and Chief Operating Officer of Horse Racing Alberta. He was passionately committed to the breeders, jockeys, patrons and other stakeholders with whom he helped steer a vibrant industry. Among his proudest collaborations was the development of a world class horse racing facility north of Calgary. Andy is survived and lovingly remembered by his parents, Vic and Beth; brother Don (Heather); Terrie's family, parents Larry and Shelagh Hudon; brothers Tom, Dan and Joe and sisters; Sue and Patti (Mark), and his extended clan of Hudon's, O'Connor's, Bryants and numerous lifelong friends from across Canada. A Celebration of Andy's Life will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church, 1307 - 14 Street SW, Calgary, AB. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com In lieu of flowers, friends of the family have established a Trust Fund in Tessa and Sean's name. Donations can be sent care of 11320 - 24A Avenue, Edmonton, T6J 4Y9. In living memory of Andy Bryant, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

Dear Terrie,

I had the very great pleasure of knowing Andy through Don and was lucky to spend time in his company both here in Scotalnd and Clagary.

He was great fun to be with and I shall treasure those memories.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this awful time.

Terri, Tessa, Sean, the Hudon Families & Bryant families - but mainly to Terri.

My thoughts and prayers are with ya girl - unimaginable thought for me as I did not know Andy was ill.
Thank God I met him a few times - WHAT A MAN!!

Sorry but an unimaginal place for most of us - WAY TOO YOUNG!!

I talked with Paula (Derek actually told me after I asked him "What's Up") I just knew something was wrong. At our ages everything is fine. We all seem to take time for granted - "later" - chat later, see you later, call me later, I'll call you later etc...

Terri, I really do not know what to say to you except that I have grown up with you (at least in the "formative years" and KNOW you are a strong person; a fighter in every positive sense of that word. It, I think, you must be in the worst place ever right now & not knowing what to do. TIME/FAMILY and your OWN STRENGHTH will get you and your "babies" through this.

Thinking of you, praying for you

To Vic & Beth,

There are no words that Joelle & I can offer up at this time that seem even remotely comforting. After spending as much time working with palliative & hospice care as I have, something should be forthcoming but... no parent should have to endure the loss of a child.

Though I never had the opportunity of knowing Andy as a true adult, I have fond memories of spending time with him & Don as we grew & our two families gathered over the years.

Andy's death has saddened me to my core. Our hearts go out to you, to Don & his wife, and especially to Terrie, Tessa & Sean. We hope you can cherish the memories of all that Andy represented and help his children hold onto that foundation.

I am so sorry that Jo & I were not able to be there today but please know your whole family are in our hearts & prayers.

We are thinking of each of you and know we are here if we can help in any way.

Love, Mike & Jo

Terri, Vic and Beth:

I was so sorry to hear of Andy's passing.

Vic and Beth, you might recall that Andy and I shared an apartment for the summer of 87 in Ottawa. I have many fond memories of the fun Andy and I had and in particular his quick laugh. I still share stories of our adventures that summer.

Terri, we've not met but I heard so much about you when Andy and I shared lunch a few years back, he clearly loved you and Tessa and Sean very much.

Andy was a good man and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers will remain with you.

Terry, Sean, Tessa, Vic, Beth and Don:

I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Andy was a wonderful man and will always be a deep part of my consciousness and memory of growing up - a man who stood for steadfast principles - a man of his word. I often remember uproarious discussions on a variety of topics - where he was prepared to stand firmly to his values and beliefs. That is a rare thing and should be truly cherished and loved. This is a sad time and I know that you will not soon be able to remember only the good times - his smile and laugh and his tremendous loyalty - I will remember those things about him and will love him forever.

God bless you as you journey through your pain.

Terrie,
I really am sorry to learn of Andy's passing. We worked together and played together. Over the odd pint or two, we solved many of Canada's problems and laughed away those we could not. He was a good man and a solid friend.
He will be missed.

I only knew Andy for the last 4 years , via his brother Don whom I work with , and instantly liked Andy and his lovely wife Terrie , and children , when I was introduced to them as well.

I will miss Andy's zany original humour and "never know what will happen next" golf and hope heaven is ready for some re-organisation , in the best possible spirit , as in the limited time that I knew Andy he changed things for the better.

Life is going to be a duller place without you for sure , rest in peace , but in your own original way.

God bless you and your family

We never had the opportunity to meet. Andy as you already know touched so many people over the years. I was glad to have him on my team in the past and loved hearing the updates on all of you through mutual friends.
May you and the children have beautiful memories to keep his spirit close to you forever.
