Andrew Butler Obituary

Pick Butler was born April 15, 1925 in Aikens, S.C. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, School of Journalism. He became a writer for the Morrisville Tribune in Morrisville, N.C. In 1958, he moved to Richmond to take a position as the Director of Information for the Virginia Farm Bureau. In 1961, he relocated to Manassas where he became the General Manager of Piedmont Federal Savings and Loan Association, and served as president of Piedmont Federal for many years. Mr. Butler gave tirelessly of his time and effort to better the lives of people in the Manassas area. He was a member and past president of the Bull Run Kiwanis Club, Manassas Rotary Club, Evergreen Country Club, and the Manassas Housing Trust Fund. He also served with the Manassas Crime Solvers for many years, and was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year in the City of Manassas in 2001. Mr. Butler was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Pickens and Ruth Pettit Butler of Gainsville, Ga. He is survived by his wife Ulysse Lancaster, his children Andrew P. Butler V, Robert L. Butler, Lisa D. Heltzel, Tazwell C. Butler and Ruth P. Butler; and by his grandchildren Jacoba Heltzel, Megan Heltzel, David Heltzel, Chad Butler, Mary Butler, Blair Butler, PJ Fink and Cody Fink. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Ames Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Manassas at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 20, with a reception immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be a private ceremony at Stonewall Memorial Gardens. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent in Mr. Butler¹s name to the Manassas Housing Trust Fun, 8955 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20110.
