Andrew "Andy" J. Cressman, 87, son of the late Andrew C. Cressman and Catherine Layet and husband of the late Veronica (Soika) Cressman, passed away July 5 in Port St. Lucie Fla.
Mr. Cressman attended West Hazleton High School and was employed by a slaughterhouse market shortly thereafter. He married Veronica Soika on May 2, 1953, at St. Casimir's Church.
The couple relocated to the Washington, D.C., area in 1958, where he became a Metropolitan police officer for 13 years. They relocated to Bowie, Md., in 1962, to raise their family while he continued his career as a police officer and upon retirement became a code enforcement officer for the city. Andy was known for his sense of humor and friendly, outgoing personality. The Cressmans enjoyed attending church, playing cards and traveling to the beach.
The couple retired in 1994 and resided in Port St. Lucie, Fla., for 27 years, and celebrated 68 years of marriage.
He left behind his wife of 68 years, Veronica Cressman, who passed away shortly thereafter; his sister, Kathleen Herchel, Hazleton; five children, Patricia (the late Glenn Miller); and Andrew (Andrea) Cressman, Pasadena, Md.; Anthony (Brenda) Cressman, Bowie, Md.; Terry Cressman, Vero Beach Fla.; and Andrea (John) Everett, Palm City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
