Andrew DICKSON Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our precious son and brother, Andrew Dickson on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of 37. Andy was a happy and determined young man. Although he struggled with epilepsy all his life, he did so with tremendous spirit. Andy loved moving trains, music, computers, electronics and horseback riding. He especially loved walking his dog through Fish Creek Park with his dad, who was his hero and best friend. Andy also volunteered his time at the WorldServe thrift store. Andy was an inspiration who touched many lives with his unconditional love. His smile and laughter would melt your heart. The world needs more people like Andy. He will be dearly missed and is in our hearts forever. Andy is survived by his parents Thomas and Elaine Dickson; brothers Bryce and Clark (Kristin); uncles Ken and Jim Dickson; aunts Karen Gregory (Stu), Joyce Rilling, Mary Jane Sinclair; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by grandparents Fred and Anne Dickson and Bill and Phillipa Sinclair; uncles Ian Sinclair and Victor Rilling; and aunt Donna Burke. A special thank you to Dr. N. Pillay, of the Foothills Hospital neurology department and to Maria Benz and Audrey Friesen, his devoted caregivers who loved him dearly. We would also like to thank his family, friends, and all other caregivers for their continued support over the years. Funeral Services will be held at Deer Park United Church (77 Deer Point Road S.E.) on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Epilepsy Association of Calgary, 4112 - 4 Street, N.W., Calgary, AB T2K 1A2 (Telephone 403-230-2764, www.epilepsycalgary.com). In living memory of Andrew Dickson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Elaine, Tom and family,
I am so sad to hear of Andy's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. I spent a year supporting Andy one on one at Options about 8 years ago. He taught me many things and one of them was unconditional love. My husband and I and some of our grandkids had the pleasure of seeing you and Tom with Andy at the pancake breakfast at Deer Valley mall in Deer run last summer. Andy looked so good. I always got very excited when I saw Andy out in the community. I have special memories of him that I will treasure.....playing pool at your home, shuffle board and many outings. I pray for Angels to surround you and your family as you grieve his loss.

Even though I am far from Calgary, my heart is with you today. Andy taught me and even my children so much about life. I was so blessed to have such a special cousin!

We were and remain very sad to hear of Andrew passing on, Elaine and Tom, our hearts go out to you and yours. We have many so many fond and special memories of Kayley and Andrew sitting together, waiting patiently for the horse back riding class to begin, the smells and sounds and people and horses of Greenbriar Stables right there. Andrew was a member here at the Rehab Society of Calgary. We were all very saddened to hear of his passing. Andrew was always such a cheerful young man who had many friends here, he will be missed . Our sincere condolences to his family.

I was saddened to hear of Andy's sudden passing. I sidewalked with Andy for a short while as a volunteer at Opening Gaits and probably got as much joy from him - with his big grins, dimples and hugs - as he got from riding. My sincere condolences to the family.
