Andrew Fenney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2005.
Andrew George Fenney died on March 31, 2005 from complications following heart surgery. Andy was born October 4, 1934 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin and was an only child who was the great pride of his parents Sherman and Bess. The family moved to Duluth, Minnesota where they owned a Ben Franklin store. After graduation from East High School in 1951 he served in Army Intelligence in Germany with the World War II occupation force, he returned to Duluth and met and married Marjorie Patrick, his wife for the next 47 years. Shortly thereafter he graduated from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. Andy was a risk taker and entrepreneur in the true American spirit and found success in many fields. He started in retail in Duluth and moved on to selling real estate in Palo Alto, California. He owned and operated, with his wife Margie, a very popular club / restaurant in Medford Oregon, called the Brave Bull. During the 1970s and 1980s Andy moved to Texas and focused his business acumen as a land developer and created or helped create many subdivisions in California, Southwest Colorado (Aspen Springs, Deer Valley), Van Alstyne, Texas (Greenview Acres, Greenview Heights, Steeplechase Estates) and Northern Wisconsin (Horseshoe Lake, Pine Cove Shores). These endeavors have enabled countless families to live close to nature in beautiful settings. In recent years, Andy bought and sold Condos in the Dallas area and allowed many the opportunity to own a home for the first time. Andy was an avid golfer and a member of Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas and Ridgeview Golf Club in Duluth where he had many great friends. Besides golf, he was a skilled fisherman, enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles, and watching golf, the Cowboys and the Mavericks both in person and on T.V. He loved to travel and spent time in Wisconsin, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, New Zealand and the Caribbean where he loved to cruise the islands in a sailboat with family and friends. Andy was an accomplished chef who had an appreciation and understanding of fine cuisine. Besides his love of his wife's home cooked meals, he loved and frequented great restaurants around the world from rural Wisconsin to Switzerland to Deep Ellum. Andy thoroughly relished every occasion where a great meal and conversation could be had with friends and family. Andy enjoyed life to its fullest and made the most of every day. He was at the center of a vast array of friends and relatives who will greatly miss his exuberant spirit and his charismatic presence. Surviving Andy are his wife, Margie; and three children, Scott Fenney, and his wife Shannon and his special grandson Drew of Little Elm, Patrick Fenney of Addison, and Tracy McCormick and her husband Mike of Flower Mound. A CELEBRATIONof this exceptional life will take place at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas on Tuesday, April 5th at 4:00 p.m

Margie and family,

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with you during this difficult time. There is not a day that goes by without us thinking about Andy and all the time we spent together with you and him. He brings lots of laughter to mind as well as some of the best memories we have shared together. The obituary is lovely and truly describes how he touched so many lives, and will continue to do so. Our tears speak loudly.

Love,Leigh, Con, and Casey Shirley.

Andy was a second father to me, always supportive and encouraging me to be better at every endeavor I undertook. I will miss cooking for him and my extended Fenney family to be certain, but I will mostly miss him calling me a nitwit and his ever present smile. Thanks for all the kindnesses over the years Andy, you and Margie are responsible for creating my best friend and your son, Scott

Rest peacefully and all my love.
