HAUCK, Andrew (Andrzej)
Andrew (Andrzej) Richard Hauck, proud patriarch of the Hauck (Hauck-Ozimkowski and Hauck DeMorest) family, died peacefully in his sleep, April 26, 2018 at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with cancer. A loving and devoted father, grandfather and husband, he leaves behind his wife of 55 years, along with his two daughters and five grandchildren, of whom he was so very proud. Originally from Warsaw, Poland, Andrzej was a survivor of the Warsaw Uprising. A consummate gentleman who still greeted ladies with a kiss on the hand and both cheeks, Andrzej was a chemical engineer by profession and an artist and musician by inclination. He was a creative, kind and gentle soul. When he wasn't coddling his beloved cat, he was tending to his traffic-stopping garden, or filling the house with his piano renditions of old standards like Boogie Woogie, La Cumparsita or other tangos and waltzes. A lover of all creatures great and small - from the two-legged, to the four-legged, to the webbed, furred and feathered - everyone was welcomed and cared for. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to staff at the Ottawa General Hospital and the Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their attentive and compassionate care. Special thanks go out to Drs. Edward Fitzgibbon, Christina Canil and Michel Dionne, and to Nurses Wendy Petrie and Olga Tsros. Friends and Family are invited to visit at Beechwood Cemetery and Funeral Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, from 3 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Saint Hyacinth Roman Catholic Polish Church, 201 Lebreton St N, Ottawa, on Wednesday, May 2 at 2 o'clock, with interment and reception to follow at Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to two of his favourite charities to reflect his great love of animals - the Humane Society or the SPCA.
