Andrew Luria Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Andrew Norman Luria on April 8, 2025. Andy was born in Melbourne, Australia on December 30, 1953. Andy was a brilliant man who loved to listen to music, especially the Beatles, read great books, make interesting art, and watch classic movies. Above all, Andy loved a good conversation.

Andy lived most of his life in New Jersey -- from Verona, to Passaic, to Montclair, to Bloomfield -- and was an integral part of the fabric of this community through his varied occupations and friendships. He was a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, Godfather and friend to so many. He will be remembered for his love of sharing stories, laughing and willingness to lend an ear.

Andy is predeceased by his father, Dr. Milton Luria, his mother, Gertrude Herman Citron, and his beautiful niece, Dana Kovaric. He is survived by his sisters Linda Kovaric and Amy Luria, his nieces Vivienne and Danica DuBarry, his Goddaughter Nalani Farina, his dear friend and roommate Bob Farina, and many extended family and friends who love and miss him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Bloomfield Public Library. A celebration of life will be held for Andy's family and close friends.

Andy was one of the very best. So cultured, so erudite, such an aficionado of classic Hollywood and international cinema. Yet he was a mensch, one of the very best people you can ever meet. We can use more Andy Lurias in our lives and the world would be a much, much better place.

Sincere condolences to the family and other friends. I so enjoyed seeing Andy at our Verona High School reunion some years back. We continued to keep in touch through Facebook and crossed many paths & circles in NYC and then some, always saying we would rendezvous sometime in NY or FL some day. Such an interesting man. Whenever I put a post on Facebook of food at a restaurant, he would make me chuckle by saying "FedEx me the leftovers!"
Surprised & sad to hear of his passing,
Betsy Osmun
