Andrew Maddox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2024.
Andrew P. Maddox of Haverhill, Massachusetts, formerly of Rockport and Lexington Massachusetts, passed away on August 22nd, 2024 after an eight month battle with cancer. Andrew was very grateful for all the support he and his family received during his illness. He was the beloved husband of Lisa D. Maddox for thirty-six years and the loving father of Amanda Saldi and husband Chaz of Salem, Katherine Maddox and partner Nick Benedetti of Haverhill, and adoptive father of Michaela Hillier and partner Bayron Contreras of Manchester-by-the-Sea.

He is also survived by siblings Lorraine Arlan and husband Aaron of Nashua, NH, Joanne Maddox-Kinslow and husband Tom of Syracuse, NY, Christopher Maddox and wife Sharon of White Hall, MD, and David Maddox and wife Martha of Manchester, NH, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his younger sister Mary Jenkins of Blanca, CO.

Andrew grew up in Lexington and attended Minuteman Technical High School, where he developed an interest in computers. He would go on to have a career in computer programming and web design, eventually starting his own business. Andrew enjoyed keeping in touch with old friends and his large family, whether online or in person.

Andrew was an exceptional father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughters, taking many trips to Walt Disney World over the years, in addition to other family adventures. He was passionate about music; writing, playing, and producing his own pieces. He enjoyed taking on creative projects such as laser cutting, building design, and home improvements. He was a committed member of Rotary International and served as the president of the Rockport Rotary Club from 2017 to 2018. Rotary programs such as Youth Exchange and RYLA were some of the areas that were very important to him. Andrew was kind, generous, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He volunteered for many kinds of projects and helped family and friends however he could. His warm smile, laugh, and sense of humor will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for family and friends to attend in the future. Donations in his memory may be made to The Rotary Foundation.

The reading of our Declaration of Independence on July 4 in Rockport just won't be the same without Andrew's presence.

His laughter was memorable. His dedication to the cause was memorable. His bright smile was memorable. May his family know that his memory continues in the way he made people feel in his presence. What a beacon of light dimmed too soon. His legacy will forever shine in all our hearts.

I worked with Andy for nearly 20 years where he provided highly specialized computer programming services for my small marketing communications firm. Andy was smart, patient and worked extremely well with clients. More importantly I know he volunteered his time and expertise with high school students who were aspiring to learn web programming. (I know because he invited me to ride along one weekend where he was judging and mentoring a trade school programming competition.) Andy did a lot of good in this world with his time. I'll miss him. My condolences to his family.

Andy helped our daughter Re' realize her wish to spend a gap year abroad as a Rotary Exchange student. She ended up going to Romania and engage with many other Rotary Exchange students there for field trips and other great experiences. Our family extends our most profound condolences to Andy's family and close friends. Bill Waller
