It was with much sadness I said goodbye last Friday to my boss of 13 years at a wonderful service which celebrated his awe-inspiring life. I worked with Andrew for all of the 28 years he worked in Monash Newborn, and for 13 of those I was his PA. He was a compassionate and dedicated doctor, driven to do the best for all babies and their families... in the intensive/special care nursery, through his research, and through his wider work with the Health Department. He cared for his staff and was a great personal support to me through several of my "life events". I loved listening to the stories of his travels and looking at the many many photos of his trips to the Australian outback and overseas (we both share a love of photography). I loved work Christmas parties at his and Melanie's home... and his love of music and dance! And oh, what a record collection!! Andy, I thank you for your friendship and support. My love and thoughts go out to Melanie, Josh, Jess and Olly. I miss you.

A gentle giant with so much care for premature babies. We will always treasure your BIG SMILE & LAUGH and for never giving up on our miracle.

Your legacy will live on through the many people whom you trained, mentored, and those who knew and loved you. Thank you for everything you gave to the medical profession and in particular your research in the neonatal world. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to your devoted Melanie, and children, Josh, Jess & Olly. May they each find comfort in all the wonderful memories you have shared. RIP Dr Andrew Ramsden

Today we farewelled a very wonderful man, we were all so sad to hear of the passing of Andrew. He was so much to so many of us, He was the man whom we entrusted our babies, who gave us hope, who was with us along our journey and who saved our Little Treasures lives, who's passion for what he did shone through so brightly. He was always so welcoming when we met.
Our sincerest condolences go out to Melanie and his children. Our thoughts are also with the staff at Monash, sending them lots of love too.
He will be remembered in many a small heart

Andrew was a pleasure to work with. His devotion to the neonatal unit was remarkable. I have worked with Andrew for 16 years and as associate unit manager I learnt a lot attending ward rounds with him. His friendly nature towards staff; families and to his miracle babies will always be remembered. May you RIP Andrew. My condolences go out to Melanie and the three children.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Andrew's passing, who I had the privilege of having worked with over the years. A man of great wisdom and knowledge,' The backbone of the NBS family'. His gentle calm nature will not be forgotten. Deepest condolences to his family.

I was given the privilege of working with Andrew for 11 years at Monash Medical Centre. We shared some memorable highs and lows; enjoyed a victory or two and occasionally shed a private tear together. We were the real odd couple, doctor and lawyer working side by side. Andrew taught me much about life, about what is important and about the sheer joy associated with a successful outcome for a tiny, sick baby. He was a great doctor and a very decent man. Without you our son would not be here. We thank you for all that you gave to medicine. Thank you to your family for sharing you with us. Our thoughts are with you during this time. Andrew was always calm, a strong presence that reassured you he and his team were doing everything possible to help your child. You will be missed but never forgotten.

My thoughts go out to Andrews family. Such a lovely man to work with, what a great loss.
Andrew talked me into trying NICU when I was a young graduate in Adult Neuro. That was back in 1999 and I have cherished my wonderful neonatal career since.
Thanks for cheering me on and putting in a good word Andrew, it was the best decision I ever made.

Many will miss you

Andrew Ramsden will be missed enormously in the medical and neonatal field, but also by the many parents who had dealings with him. He was straight down the line and didn't try and make things any more positive than they were. He was a great man with a kind heart, often having to deliver devastating news to parents. He came to Gabrielle's bedside many times with bad news but delivered it with compassion. RIP Andrew Ramsden

An amazing, intelligent and generous man who worked so very hard to help the sickest infants. He will be sadly missed by all that had the privilege of working along side him.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I have spent the majority of my nursing career working alongside Andy. He is the most amazing doctor, and one that any patient and family would be lucky to have in charge of their care. His caring, gentle nature and way with families will stay in my memory forever. Over the years I learned so much from him, he was a great teacher, and always willing to share his knowledge or a kind word with the staff he worked with. Andy, you will be sorely missed. RIP.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Ramsden's passing. Andrew stood with my husband and I at the foot of the isolette in the absolute darkest of hours, in the terrifying hours after my 25 weeker son's surgery for PDA. His resolute determination that night was the absolute last bastion of defence, and we are so very grateful. I have thought of him often over the past 10 years as my son has gone from strength to strength, to the tall, robustly health and happy boy he is today. With much respect.
