GILMER — Services for Andrew Herbert Young, 67, of Gilmer, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Larry W. Osborne and Pat Camp officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. Mr. Young passed away August 28, 2011, in Longview.
Andy was born February 25, 1944, in Gilmer, to Herbert Leon and Louise Wilson Young. He graduated from Gilmer High School in 1962, received his BS in chemistry, mathematics and physics from East Texas State University in Commerce; received his Master's in U.S. History and Political Philosophy from Texas A&M at Kingsville; and his Doctoral study from Texas Tech University, specializing in the fields of U.S. Economics, Agriculture Ranching History, Chicano History, Colonial Latin American and English History.
Mr. Young taught at Ore City HS, Gilmer HS, Porter-Brownsville HS, Texas A&M at Kingsville, Texas Tech University and South Plains Community College. While teaching at the high school level, he taught chemistry, physics and math; and at the college level, history. After retirement from teaching, Mr. Young worked for Coldwell Banker Realty in Longview, Texas.
Andy was director and president of the East Texas High School Rodeo Association for six years, director of the East Texas Horse Show Association for five years, Gilmer Buckeye Athletic Booster Club President for six years, and Researcher Assistant Director for the yearbook of the West Texas Historical Association. He also researched and wrote for the Lubbock Center for Historical and Cultural Preservation.
Mr. Young is survived by his brother, Sammy Joe Young and his wife, Shanis, of Mineola; sister, Virginia Young Goudarzi of Gilmer; nine nieces and nephews, Chane Young, Marty Young and his wife, Megan, Natalie Dixon and her husband, Chad, Alise Nolan and her husband, Scott, Brent Goudarzi and his wife, Leslie, Shawn Goudarzi and his wife, Gayle, Krissy Harle, Damon Young and his wife, Missy, and Mitchell Young and his wife, AnaLisa; and seventeen great nieces and nephews.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert L. Young and Louise Wilson Young; brother, Jimmy L. Young; sister, Mari Young; sister-in-law, Eilene Young; and stepmother, Laverne Young.
Pallbearers are Chane Young, Marty Young, Brent Goudarzi, Shawn Goudarzi, Damon Young, Mitchell Young, Scott Nolan and Chad Dixon. The honorary pallbearers are Dickey Harrison, Ronnie South and Gilmer High School Class of 1962.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, August 30, 2011, at the funeral home.

I would like to express my condolences to Andy's family. He was a very special person in my family, the Richards family who were neighbors when we lived on Allen and the Youngs on First. He and my brother Ronnie Richards were friends growing up and he was so very kind to my family when Ronnie died.

No doubt Andy is aboard his mighty steed,Roseinate',somewhere above tipping windmills. I'm sure that once that quest is completed,he'll have time to cheer for his beloved Rangers and Buckeyes.
