Angela Carroll Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2024.
Angela Lillian (Pugliesi) Carroll, a lifelong resident of Quincy Point, passed peacefully at home, Thursday, October 10, 2024 surrounded by her family just after celebrating her 90th birthday and days before her 61st wedding anniversary. Born October 1, 1934, on Federal Hill in Providence, she was the youngest of eight and a first-generation American, brought into the world by her grandmother, a prominent Italian midwife.

Angela is predeceased by her parents, Teodoro and Elide (Paolinelli) Pugliesi, and her siblings: brothers Joseph, Salvatore, Victor, and sisters Teresa, Marian Phipps, Laura Fowles, and Nancy Tucci.

A member of Quincy High School's Class of 1952, Angela was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, where she was honored to be the parish's first female lector. Strong in faith and prayer, she was known for maintaining long prayer lists and gifting St. Jude medals.

Angela's work experience spanned from running Keno tables at Fascination on Nantasket Beach to working at the old Quincy Hospital. She spent many years in the television advertising department at WHDH, where she had memorable encounters with Mel Brooks, Alfred Hitchcock, and Barbra Streisand. A close friend of 50s singer June Valli, Angela loved attending her performances and gave her eulogy. She retired after 27 years of dedicated administrative service in the Quincy Public Schools.

Angela was an early member of Quincy Community Action, tirelessly advocating for children and education. She founded several parent boards and was a frequent speaker at school committee meetings, fighting "not just for my kids but for all of them."

Her proudest accomplishment was raising her two daughters. She loved spending time with them in both Quincy and New York. An avid fan of Broadway musicals, all things Italy, and cooking-especially her famous chicken soup-Angela brought joy to everyone around her.

Her devoted husband Bill survives her at home. She is also survived by her two daughters Ann and Christine Carroll both of New York City and several nieces and nephews.

Angela will be remembered for her huge heart, contagious joy, and embodiment of grace. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Visiting hours will be held in Saint Joseph Church, 550 Washington Street, Quincy, on Wednesday, October 16, from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Joseph Church, 550 Washington Street, Quincy, on Thursday, October 17, at 10 a.m.
