Anita M. Gerum, 83, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, and longtime resident of Torrington, Connecticut, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Prairie Gate,
Council Bluffs, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Saturday, September 6, at 10:30 AM at Saint Maron's Church in Torrington, CT
Anita Marie was born December 31, 1941, in Hayes, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence and Ruth (Pickering) Solorio. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from North High School in Omaha. She moved to Torrington when she married Stefan Gerum. They were married for 27 years. During that time, Anita and Stefan cofounded the Torrington Youth Soccer Program in 1978.
Anita was a manager at Autotote Corporation, an off-track betting and wagering company, for thirty years until retiring in 2007.
Anita volunteered to help children read at the elementary school in Onawa for many years. She was an avid reader and loved going to book clubs.
Anita enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, crafting, sewing, and hosting many family gatherings.
Anita was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa. She was also a member of the Burgess Hospital Auxiliary. She was also very proud of her work at the Hospital gift shop as a volunteer. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and her dog Rueben.
Survivors include her children, Athena Colucci of Poughquag, New York, Roxann Farley of Torrington, Connecticut, and Stefan (Heather Wilson) Gerum of Winchester, Connecticut (Stefan is recently deceased); grandchildren, AnnMarie (Roshen Carman) Colucci of Beacon, New York, Adam (Liz Shirley) Colucci of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Michael (Gina) Colucci of Chappaqua, New York; great-grandchildren, Neem & Leela Carman Colucci-Carman, Ruby Colucci, Mina & Remy Colucci; former spouse, Stefan Gerum; sister, Kay Tucker of
Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces, Edie Eitman and Tiffany Arrick; nephews, Brad Tucker and Patrick (Alex) Farley; cousins, Daryl (Barbara) Carr and Fred (Karen) Carr; and many great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Solorio; mother, Ruth Pickering; stepmother, Madge Solorio; sister, Carol (Solorio) Hunter; brother-in-law, Ed Tucker; and former spouse, Stefan Gerum.
