Anita Sariego Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2025.
Anita Sariego (née Iglesias Simón), beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in Whitehall (PA) on Friday, June 27, 2025. She was 92. Anita was born in Asturias, Spain in 1933, and emigrated to the United States with her family in 1970. Prior to living in Whitehall the past 10 years, she resided in Bensalem (PA) for four decades.

Anita was one of 11 children, and family was always the center of her world. She is survived by two sisters, Dorita and Erundi, and pre-deceased by siblings Trini, Ines, Sarita, Genaro, Tony, Tino, Julio and Bruno. Anita was blessed with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, most of whom still live in Spain.

Anita met the love of her life, Fernando, in 1955. They were married three months later and never spent a day apart for the next 58 years, until he passed away in 2013. They were both employed for many years by General Machine Products in Trevose, which meant they even spent their commute and lunch break together every day.

Anita was extremely talented and creative. After she retired, she was active and productive with her many creative endeavors. She was a gifted seamstress, knitter, jewelry maker and gardener. She was also a fantastic cook, having honed her culinary skills in her youth while living with relatives who owned a restaurant in Valencia, Spain. No one left her home hungry or without generous leftovers. Family gatherings were always feasts and every meal cooked to perfection.

Anita is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Sariego of Reading, and Maria Sariego Sterner (John) of Whitehall; grandsons Ryan Sariego (Nicole) and Michael DiStefano; and great granddaughters Ellie and Juliette Sariego.

We are left with a big hole in our hearts. Our matriarch is gone and she will be greatly missed, but we are comforted knowing she lived a long and fulfilling life and she will be forever remembered and loved by the many relatives and dear friends who were blessed to know her.

A private celebration of Anita's life will be held at the family's convenience.
