Ann Marie Richie George, beloved mother and wife, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010, at Beacon Hospice in Longview.
Ann Marie was born on June 9, 1923, to immigrant parents Frank and Katherine Richie originally from Poggioreale, Sicily.
She was the loving wife of John Joseph George for 46 years. He preceded her in death in 1992. She was also a devoted mother to her only child, Pat George Mitchell of Longview, Texas.
Mrs. George was preceded in death by her brother William Richie in 2007.
Ann Marie was an amazing social dancer and spent many evenings at the USO dances at Fort Hood during World War II. It was at Fort Hood where, on a blind date, she met John Joseph "Turk" George, and after a 3-year courtship conducted by correspondence, married him in a full military wedding at the Church of Assumption in Waco, Texas, in 1946. They soon relocated to Longview, where they raised their only child, Pat George Mitchell. Ann Marie loved life, and it was evident in everything she did. She was a fabulous cook, homemaker and gardener. She had an eye for fashion and was always "dressed" for any occasion.
But her life's passion was helping her daughter as a founding board member of Longview Ballet Theatre, as the secretary and registrar for the Studio of Creative Arts for 40 years, and as a much loved and revered "grandmother" to LBT dancers. Her smile and encouragement will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Longview, with Father Denzell officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum. The rosary will be recited 7 p.m., today, January 20, 2010, at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, and a visitation will follow the rosary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions be made to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House, P. O. Box 5908, Longview, TX 75608 or to Longview Ballet Theatre, P. O. Box 2602, Longview, TX 75606.
Pallbearers: Blake C. Erskine, Randy Williams, Frank Tibiletti, A.P. Merritt, Troy Schaap, Aaron Klein, Steve Rash and Byron Johnston.
