Mary Alice Jackson Beatty passed away August 11 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. She was 89. Mary was born in Grelton, Ohio in 1917 and raised in nearby Napoleon. She attended Ohio State University for three years and graduated from Birmingham Southern University. She married Robert D. Beatty, Jr. in 1940. They lived in numerous places throughout the United States. Following her husband's death in 1977, Mary moved to Watsonville where she has lived for the past 28 years. Mary's sweetness of spirit, strength and strong sense of family will be missed by her friends and family. Special thanks goes to the Santa Cruz Bridge Studio from her family. She will be remembered with great love by her children and their spouses: Robert and Cathy Beatty of Prunedale and Ashley and Bob Halderman of Corralitos; by her three grandchildren and their spouses: Laurie and Mark Constable of Santa Barbara, Jim Halderman and Michelle Lesar of Aptos, and Christy and Scott Tall of Aptos; an d by her beloved great-grandchildren: Alexis, Nathan, Anna, Riley and Atlee. According to her wishes, no services have been planned locally. She will be buried in Birmingham, Alabama next to her husband. Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066. 831-430-3000.
