Ann Marie Simcich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2024.
Ann Marie Simcich passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024 with her children by her side. Ann Marie was born on June 6, 1955 to Joseph and Doris Kane in Worcester, Massachusetts. She grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia before moving to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida nearly 50 years ago, then settled down to raise her children in Jupiter.

Happiest in nature, Ann Marie lived an active lifestyle and preferred to be outside as much as possible. She was best known as Grannie Annie, and was a loving and active grandmother who found so much joy in her four grandchildren. Time with Grannie Annie included plenty of treats and the only rule was "have fun!"

Ann Marie had an incredible work ethic and was a dedicated friend and employee throughout her career until she happily retired in December 2022.

Following her retirement, Ann Marie left the beach life in Jupiter and moved to the mountains of Murphy, North Carolina in January 2023 with her sweet and spunky pup, Charlie. Retirement in her new town brought many wonderful people into her life, and a slower paced, peaceful way of living. Ann Marie spent her retirement hiking, practicing yoga, camping, relaxing on her mountain-view porch, paddle boarding, and always saying "yes" to new adventures. Ann Marie was a true animal lover, and will be greeted in heaven by a lifetime of loving rescue dogs.

Ann Marie is preceded in death by her parents. She will be dearly missed and is survived by her son Chad Simcich and wife Jessica of Bronson, Florida; daughter Kelly Shaarda and husband Peter of Jupiter, Florida; four grandchildren: Katlyn, Hannah, Kane and Tanner; as well as her three siblings: Joseph Kane, Jr., Patricia Pritcher and Sandra (Norman) Singer.

A memorial and celebration of her life will be held Monday, December 9 at 10am at The Cathedral of Saint Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ann Marie's memory to Valley River Humane Society, P.O. Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906.

I really miss Ann Marie and Charlie. Ann loved her family and friends so dearly, always considering others first. Great loss.

Ann Marie was such a special human being, and I'm forever grateful that we connected. Almost the moment we met it was instantly deep and sincere-chosen family we quickly became. Her gratitude, and positivity towards life was so deliberate, and pervasive that it would easily spread to those around her. She actively sought out the good and the beauty in all things. I treasure the time we had together, and her impact on our hearts will be eternal. We love you so very much sweet dear friend. Rest in Power!

When we moved to Jupiter Farms, we lived on a dirt road with just a few houses sprinkled around. Fortunately one of those near us was where Ann lived. We were lucky to have such a warm, happy and wonderful person near us. We became fast friends and watched as each of our families grew and flourished. She was so kind, so optimistic, and with such a beautiful smile and quick laugh. It was contagious. She was there for special events, like the birth of our third child and sending our oldest to Panama as part of the Peace Corps. We did lose touch over the last decade, which we regret. Thus her death came as a shocking and devastating blow. God speed, Ann. Thanks for letting us be part of your life.

When we moved to Jupiter Farms way back when, we were on a dirt road with just a few houses on it. Fortunately, one of those was inhabited by Ann. We were so fortunate to have her as a neighbor. We quickly became friends, and from then on she was a part of our family. She was there in the birthing center to hold our third child minutes after he was born. She was there to send off our oldest when he was headed for Panama as part of the Peace Corps. And we got to see her children grow up and flourish. She had the best smile, the most optimistic view of life and of everyone she met. Unfortunately we did let her get away from us in the last decade, and her death came as a shock. But she taught us much with her kindness and warmth and she will always have a special place in our family. God speed, Ann, thanks for being a part of our lives.

Ann Marie was my neighbor in the Murphy, NC mountains for almost 2 years., and she was such a treasure to me. We drooled over our beautiful woods and mountains together and participated in some of the local cultural activities. One of my favorites was a Christmas activity at the John C. Campbell Folk School. They were showing us a Christmas folk dance, and asked for audience volunteers to come dance with them. I jumped up, then Ann Marie jumped up, and we did our best, dancing the quirky folk dance like a couple of crazy ladies and laughing the whole time! I will always cherish my memories of her, and appreciate her loving, kind, grateful, positive and beautiful soul.

Our friendship is forever treasured. Ann came to my yoga classes since the early 2000s and when I taught paddleboard yoga with your dog, she brought sweet Buddy. It was always a joy when she came to my yoga under the full moon classes. And then she got Charlie who I trained and loved. Our friendship was very special and she remains in my heart forever. Love, Peace, Joy.

"Friends often come and go, but only a few remain in our hearts forever. You are one of them." I told this to Ann recently, my dear friend (and my husband's friend) of nearly 38 years. I'm thankful we had the opportunity to tell each other how much we meant to each other, now and always. Here's a little more from an email I sent to Ann: "oh, full moon yoga, David's birthday, Bunco, and countless other gatherings. Just talking on the phone about anything! Your cheery voice saying, "Hi, Kayla!" even today! I promise to always think of you with your smile, laughter, and warm heart. I may have not told you, but to me, you were always absolutely beautiful on the outside ... and inside! Go gently and peacefully, my dear friend. Love to Kelly and Chad from us. They will always shine from your love, And you will always be in our hearts. XOXOXO" The photo I attached is from a concert we all went to. So much love and fun together that I will cherish. (I'm wearing the hat.)

I was fortunate to meet and enjoy yoga with Ann Marie. Early on when I joined the group she welcomed me with her beautiful smile. I referred to her as my "glimmer". Such a fantastic human being and I will truly miss her. My thoughts and prayers are for her family at this time, she deeply loved you!

Today, during our Tuesday class, we held a heartfelt tribute for our beloved Ann Marie, honoring her adventurous spirit and luminous grace.
As part of the tribute, we shared a poem titled "The Eternal Flame," inspired by her joy and artful living. For those who wish to hear it, I´ve included a link to the reading: https://youtu.be/8O99i81F8kU?si=UWQH0oEariGZqYhh
Ann Marie´s essence and the love she shared with so many continue to inspire us. May her light remind us to live boldly, care deeply, and love unconditionally.
With love and light,

Ann Marie was a very positive person who reminded me each time I met her how lucky we were to be alive. Whether it was kayaking on beautiful North Carolina lakes (she loved paddle boarding with dog Charlie aboard) or going to the local racetrack and hearing the buzz of country cars, she took an interest in each moment and the people around her. She loved nature and spoke fondly of sitting on her back porch and enjoying each season or the full moons. She always said how fortunate she was. I last texted with her when I was traveling in Europe and shared some photos from my trip. She replied: "so beautiful!!! take it all in and enjoy!!!" This seemed to be her motto in the last few years of her life: take it all in and enjoy. There is no greater advice at any stage in life.

We met at the beach and our pups were instant friends as were we. Ann Marie was at home and made community quickly everywhere she went. She was a wise good friend, down to earth, loved her family dearly and she was totally fun to be with. Ann Marie was a strong woman with a big heart. I will greatly miss her.

We had the pleasure of meeting Ann (Grannie Annie affectionately) through her granddaughter Katlyn and Katlyn´s father, Chad. Even though we were only together a handful of times, we hold dear the memories of her infectiously warm smile. It certainly reflected what was in the inside of her, pure love. We extended our deepest sympathy to Katlyn, Chad and all of Ann´s family.

Ann Marie was special. Beautiful inside and out. Never wanted to inconvenience anyone, was very self sufficient and appreciated every moment. Beautiful soul.
