ANN NEWBERG

Ann Newberg passed away peacefully at her residence in Phoenix, Az on January 24, 2010. Ann was born June 11, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Mary and Peter Zavoda. She had been a resident of the Phoenix area for the last 39 years. Ann was an accomplished bookkeeper, educator, and homemaker. She possessed an energetic and sprightly young soul whose caring spirit shone through the twinkle in her eye. Ann gave her time and talents to anyone in need, whether it be a hand with yard work, volunteering at school, a ride to the store or a chat on the phone. Her most beloved time was spent with her grandchildren, reading a book, completing a puzzle or making them her famous carrot juice. She had a great affinity for the Larkspur Elementary School and was a member of the Shadow Mountain Senior Center and Paradise Valley Community College Silver Sneakers. She will be missed dearly and the emptiness and sadness in our hearts is only filled by the joy that she sits with Jesus today! Ann is survived by her daughters Violet Klebert (Donald) and Ruth Sommerfeld; sons Livingston Newberg (Carol) and Peter Newberg(Terri); grandchildren, Joel Newberg, Chloe Newberg, Susan Sommerfeld, Cindy Sommerfeld, Ray Sommerfeld, Dawn Dooley, Audra Frumin, Andy Newberg, Don Klebert, Gail Hamm; great grandchildren, Katie Sommerfeld, Megan Sommerfeld, Calden Sommerfeld, Alexandra Frumin, Joshua Frumin, Cole Frumin, Evan Newberg, Tessa Newberg, Brennan Dooley, Jessica Hamm, Elizabeth Cibura; sisters Irene Meyers (Paul), Mary Schwertfeger(Jerry), Susan Ulatoski (Robert) and Lillian Bredlau (Ted); Nieces Susan Ulatoski, Mary Bredlau, Nancy Kanka; nephews Steven Meyers, Thomas Meyers, Mark Schwertfeger, Jerry Schwertfeger Jr., Theodore Bredlau. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband C. Livingston Newberg; brother, Peter Zavoda and sister Helen Zavoda. Visitation will be Sunday, January 31, 2010 beginning at 3:00pm at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3030 E. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix, AZ with a Service of Remembrance beginning at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Red Cross, Lutheran Braille Workers, Christian Jew Foundation or any other charity of your choice in the name of Ann Newberg.
