Anna Augeri Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2025.
Our beloved mother Anna Waldmann Augeri (90), passed away after a short illness on March 11, 2025 at her home in Marstons Mills, MA. Anna was born in Hoboken, NJ to Max and Gertrude (Depkat) Waldmann. They returned to Germany in 1936 when Anna was 15 months old and she grew up in Zepernick bei Berlin, Germany. Anna had a challenging childhood growing up in the midst of WWII and recently wrote a memoir 'The Lonely Road of a Thankful Heart' where she shares a youngsters view of their daily life through the war years. She returned alone to the U.S. in 1947 at 13 years old, to live with cousins in Deep River, CT. She graduated from Deep River High School and Wilcox School of Nursing at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown, CT. as a R.N.

Anna's former husband was the late John E Augeri. She was mother to their four children, Annette, David (wife Thippha), and former daughter in law Tina Leone, Charles and youngest son Mark, and beloved grandsons Louis, Matthew and his girlfriend Isabelle. Anna was predeceased by her parents and younger brother Sohni (Adolf) Waldmann, and is also survived by her sister-in-law, Inge Waldmann of Bernau bei Berlin, Germany and her nephew Peter Waldmann of Panketal, Germany.

Anna had a full and varied life. Aside from raising her family and working as an RN, she utilized her many creative interests including sewing, embroidery, knitting and crocheting, making countless quilts, scarves, hats, and blankets for children in need and veterans. Her hands were rarely still, especially in her later years.

She also was a talented cake decorator and owned a retail store "The Cake Gallery" in Middletown, CT in the mid to late 1970s. Her cake designs ran the gamut from children's birthday cakes to an aircraft carrier for a veteran's celebration, to the many-tiered wedding cakes draped in the most beautiful icing flowers that were enjoyed by family, friends and customers, even a few famous folk like Ella T. Grasso, the Governor of Connecticut and actress Katherine Hepburn!

Anna moved to Cape Cod in 1986, she loved being close to the water and enjoyed all the Cape had to offer. She continued to work as a nurse there until she retired in the late 1990's. Then her gardens and crafts became her focus and she continued to decorate cakes and host the neighborhood children each December helping them each decorate their own gingerbread houses! Sweet memories were had by all!

Anna's indomitable, generous, funny and infectious spirit and talents will be forever missed by her family and close friends.

Anna's early life lived under fascist and totalitarian rule, set the tone for her appreciation of her life here where she could live with freedom in a democratic society. She was passionate about sharing her first hand knowledge of that early life, praying we would never lose that freedom here and that her children and grandchildren would not have to endure her experiences.

There will be no public service.

Dear Annette, David, Chuck and Mark, I am very saddened to receive this news. You had a very special Mom whom loved her children above all else. I have many warm memories of our treasured friendship. I understood her so much better after reading her autobiography of her early years .... She turned a tough beginning into a wonderful life, and shared her many talented gifts freely to all whom she came in contact with. May she rest in peace. My most sincere condolences.
