Anna Belle Chambers

Funeral services for Anna Belle Chambers, 97, of Portales will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 9, 2008, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jeff Symonds officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Nathan Wood, Roger Shafer, Terry Davis, Dick Hood, Bobby Borden and Bill Wood serving as pallbearers.
Anna Belle was born April 11, 1911, in Dundee, TX to Joe E. and Mary M. Rinard, and died December 5, 2008, at the Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell, TX. Mrs. Chambers grew up in Dundee. On January 8, 1930, in Raton, NM she was married to Monroe Chambers. They made their home at Farley, between Clayton and Springer, NM until 1937 when they moved to Raton. They came to Portales to live in 1965. For nine years she was employed at Borden Peanut Co. In 1974 they moved to El Paso, TX. Following the death of Mr. Chambers in 1980, she decided to return to Portales. She had lived at Golden Acres Retirement Community for the past 28 years, and held the distinction of having lived there longer than any other resident. She loved all the activities and the many friends she made while living there. Mrs. Chambers was a very upbeat lady that truly enjoyed life. She loved nature and the beauty of the trees and clouds. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Joyce (Bobby Ray) Harmon of Sun City, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Marion Ruth Chambers of Portales; four grandchildren, Bobby Don Harmon, Melton David Chambers, Delisa Ann Barkley and Debbie Roman; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, John, Arch, Sam, Enoch, and Joe David Rinard, a sister, Lou Ella Hensley, her son, Milton Chambers and by her husband, Monroe Chambers who died November 3, 1980.
